Job Summary The position specializes in vehicle and equipment mechanical design, engineering theory, technical studies, writing vehicle and equipment specifications, and developing and computing impact calculations, return on investment, and forecasting models. This position collaborates closely with internal teams across the organization and external stakeholders, to understand and develop requirements and specifications for construction vehicles and equipment, maintenance practices, and procedures
in accordance with regulatory standards. This position leads technical projects as required and is expected to become a subject matter expert (SME) able to coach and lead others in this area.
Job Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities (include and are not limited to): Thorough knowledge of Utility Equipment Safety Standards, laws and regulations: State DOT, ANSI, SAE, FMVSS, including specific knowledge of fleet specifications and engineering, safety and fleet legal requirements. Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented fleet engineering problems. Proficiency in the diagnosis and repair of all fleet vehicles and equipment.
Translate technical expertise into layman terms interacting with internal and external clients. Thorough knowledge of Safety Standards (industry and corporate based) and how they relate to Fleet Services. Perform field analysis of equipment defect & accident investigations. Coordinate all safety related recalls & service bulletins within multiple fleet repair facilities. Direct and lead Fleet Environmental and Governmental compliance requirements (Federal, State, County mandates) Responsible for research of new vehicle technology; EV, hybrids, hydrogen, fuel cell to meet all emission requirements Conduct and develop analyses, identify vehicle and equipment replacements based on optimum lifecycles.
Develop and analyze new business initiatives supporting client goals, standardize specifications, lower costs while maintaining safe and efficient vehicles and equipment. Lead vehicle and equipment committee teams in the development of fleet standards, guidelines and specifications. Liaison with client team identifying issues and opportunities to improve vehicle specifications. Expert resource for optimal vehicle utilization. Responsible for ~$10 M.
annual vehicle and equipment acquisition Lead contact with key personnel and officials of other organizations such as vehicle and equipment manufacturers and suppliers. Monitor design/manufacturer vendor performance, ensure company expectations and order details are being met, correct deficiencies as required. Develop vendor parts availability for new bids meeting internal specifications. Subject matter expert guide operators and mechanics regarding new vehicle operation and capabilities. Support in-house warranty agreements and initiatives. Job Specific Qualifications Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience: • Bachelors’ degree in mechanical engineering.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a capacity that allowed for direct experience with a variety of electric utility construction vehicles and commercial equipment. • Must possess strong analytical ability and strong problem-solving skills. • Must possess strong time management skills and have a demonstrated ability to work in both team and independent settings. • Must possess exceptional communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, and a familiarity with the necessary interdepartmental interfaces, to ensure that strong working relationships are cultivated and maintained throughout the organization.
In addition, must possess the ability to develop and deliver an informative and effective presentation. • Must be proficient in spreadsheet and database software (preferably MS Word, MS Excel and MS Access). • Working knowledge of SAP, ARIBA, Concur, and Purchasing Card Program is desirable. • Participate in PSEGLI Emergency Storm restoration assignment when required. • Must possess exceptional customer sensitivity and commitment to customer satisfaction.
