PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED Job Summary: The Loads Engineer specializes in vehicle flight / ground loads in support of an advanced development program and is responsible for developing loads for miscellaneous conditions including canopy, door, pressurization, engine mount, external store, tie-down/mooring, and aerial refueling.
The successful candidate is a highly motivated self-starter. In addition, the successful candidate should be proactive, forward-thinking, able to work with a small team to rapid resolution of complex technical loads problems and can convey complex technical problems diplomatically and professionally to both other engineering disciplines and leadership. The candidate
will be able to work well in a team environment and form connections across the myriad of disciplines such as flight controls, mass properties, stress, and mechanism teams.
The ideal candidate would have experience working in the advanced development world and would understand the depth of analysis this environment requires. Responsibilities may include: Informing design decisions from the loads perspective Presenting key technical information to other engineering disciplines and management in diplomatic and professional approach. Developing of structural dynamics and aerodynamic models of appropriate level of complexity for analysis and level of program.
Perform loads analysis for nominal, parametric, and failure conditions. Know and understand relevant MIL-STDs. Collaborate across key disciplines to develop data needed for analyses listed above. Requisition may be filled as a Principal Engineer (level 3) or Sr Principal Engineer (level 4) depending on the qualifications below. Basic Qualifications: Principal Engineer: Bachelor of Science (BS) in a related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years relevant experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a related STEM discipline with 3 years relevant experience; OR Ph.
D. in a related STEM discipline with 1 year of relevant experience Sr Principal Engineer: Bachelor of Science (BS) in a related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 9 years relevant experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a related STEM discipline with 7 years relevant experience; OR Ph. D. in a related STEM discipline with 4 years of relevant experience Experience with aircraft loads (flight/aero, ground) Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Do D Secret clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering with an emphasis on aircraft loads (flight loads, ground loads, flutter and aeroelasticity, etc.
) Current, in-scope Do D Secret clearance or higher Advanced knowledge of detailed ground and flight loads and load mitigation Experience in vehicle loads analysis with emphasis on flight / ground loads to include steady state maneuvers, abrupt maneuvers, gust response, and control surface hinge moments Experience developing loads for miscellaneous conditions including canopy, door, pressurization, engine mount, external store, tie-down/mooring, and aerial refueling Experience in the use of industry standard loads and dynamics analysis software such as NASTRAN, PATRAN, FEMAP, ZONAIR, ZAERO Experience with MATLAB and CAD Tools (NX) Experience working on an advanced development program Salary Range: $92,600 - $139,000 Salary Range 2: $114,900 - $172,300The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
