Project Overview Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ).

Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base

Position Overview : This position will be responsible for providing hydraulic and hydrologic (H&H) engineering support to the project and executing specialized activities during the licensing and engineering phases. This position has the technical responsibility of review and interpretation of nuclear licensing regulations and permitting requirements related to H&H analysis and design. Other main responsibilities include origination and/or checking of H&H calculations, preparation of licensing documents, preparation of reports, preparation of design documents such as specifications and design sketches, review of vendor submittals, etc.

The ideal candidate will have solid experience in hydrologic analysis and hydraulic design of plant systems and structures and capable of developing nuclear licensing and design documents that incorporate H&H engineering design. The position will be reporting to the G&HES EGS on the Project, receiving technical direction from the H&H subdiscipline manager, and coordinating with off-project H&H engineers, project staff from other disciplines and functions in the development of licensing and design documents. In addition, it will be required that the candidate has excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and embrace Bechtel’s diversity & inclusion, leadership, quality, and safety values.

Responsibilities: Review and interpret nuclear regulations and permitting requirements relevant to flood protection, site development, and plant operation. Specify, collect, review, and interpret H&H data to be used for licensing and design. Originate and/or check H&H documents such as calculations, sections of licensing documents, reports, specifications, etc. Provide field support during execution of H&H field activities as needed.

Adhere to schedule and budget for assigned activities. Adhere to project execution plan, and quality assurance requirements and engineering procedures and instructions. Incorporate relevant best practices and lessons learned in H&H licensing and design deliverables. Assist G&HES EGS with issues related to H&H engineering. Coordinate tasks assigned to off-project H&H engineers in consultation with the G&HES EGS and H&H subdiscipline manager. Receive technical direction from H&H subdiscipline manager. Assist H&H subdiscipline manager in off project activities as needed.

Act as a mentor for more junior engineers Participate in technical excellence activities. Qualifications and Skills Basic Qualifications: M. S. degree in civil engineering or a related field specializing hydraulic or hydrologic engineering with 13 years of relevant work experience, or a Ph. D. in civil engineering or a related field specializing hydraulic or hydrologic engineering with 9 years of relevant work experience. Must be authorized to live and work in the US without sponsorship. Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Minimum Qualifications: Prior experience working in a Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.

Professional Engineer (PE) license. Experience in nuclear plant licensing and design (nuclear power plant or DOE nuclear facility) Ability to independently execute flood modeling, stormwater analysis, and hydraulic analysis of structures and piping systems in support of engineering design and site development of nuclear plants. Familiarity with nuclear regulations in relation to design basis flood determination and design requirements for safety-related hydraulic structures and systems. Proficient in the use of H&H analysis software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM/XPSWMM or equivalent.

Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, computer graphics, and other appropriate computer applications to facilitate the compilation and analysis of data collection activities. Knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as calculations, engineering study reports, drawings, and specifications. Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects. Ability to resolve technical issues with other H&H engineers, other engineering disciplines, construction, regulatory agencies, and the client. Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph. D. in civil engineering or a related field specializing in hydraulic or hydrologic engineering. Publications in technical journals and participation in technical conferences. Familiar with Bechtel standard computer programs, Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Design Guides & Standards, and their application to projects. Necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence. Proficient in the use of computer models for hydraulic transient in pipeline system. Experience with scoping, budgeting, and scheduling of H&H activities.

Experience with AP1000 Nuclear Power Plant Design.
