collaboration, trust, and delivery. They are what we believe, what customers can expect, and how we deliver. Position Summary Bechtel is seeking a Process Engineer to join the Process and System engineering department within the Manufacturing and Technology Business Unit (M&T).
The prime roles and responsibilities include: Assigned on projects to develop an area from conceptual phase to EPC phase. Plans and conducts independent work within M&T to support all business lines (Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, and Data Center) requiring judgment in evaluation, selection, application, and adaption of design on a project. Knows applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design
practices and quality standards for a global business unit. Responsibilities Works with the customer, understands requirements and develops the design basis and Process Flow schemes.
Executes process engineering deliverables according to a set engineering design criteria utilizing approved engineering procedures, practices, and standards. Prepares, coordinates, and reviews designs, studies, reports, and proposals. Takes the initiative to coordinate the detailed design development of a system with other engineering disciplines while managing workload and meeting schedule due dates. Maintains the technical quality of all process deliverables issued on the project.
Identifies issues (problems, value improvement opportunities) and help clarify areas of complexity during all phases of the engineering design work. Understands multi-disciplinary technical issues and is able to provide innovative technical solutions to resolve these issues. Develops and/or checks overall plant and unit simulations using standard process simulation programs (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, Pro II, Unisim, and/or Promax), including development of H&MBs. Preferred experience in Aspen Plus. Develops and/or checks Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Utility Flow Diagrams (UFDs) being able to explain selected flow configuration.
Develops and checks calculation of equipment sizes including vessels, columns, heat exchanger requirements, and packaged equipment specifications. Attends and inputs at major reviews such a PFD/P&ID reviews, HAZOPs, and 3D model reviews. Represents the process engineering discipline and is able to explain process design questions to clients and other disciplines. Develops offsites and utility design including consumptions and the overall utility summary. Develops alarm and trip setpoint and process safety time calculations. Develops complex technical studies and resolution of technical issues on project.
Mentors designers and drafters by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development. Promotes the creation of a work environment, supported by leadership, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction. Qualifications and Skills Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university and at least 7 years related to process engineering. Prior experience in executing Process Engineering works in EPC projects. Excellent knowledge of technical theory, engineering principles, good engineering practices and how to apply them in design execution.
Familiarity with major regulations and industry codes and standards (i. e. API Standards, ASME, etc. ) affecting standard design, quality, or processes. Thorough understanding of chemical engineering principles of heat transfer, vapor-liquid equilibria, mass transfer and thermodynamics, and their general application to process design. Experience in developing/checking overall plant and unit simulations using standard process simulation programs (Aspen Plus, Hysys, Pro II, Unisim, and/or Promax), including development of H&MBs.
Experience in developing/checking Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Utility Flow Diagrams (UFDs). Experience in process design of equipment, including vessels, columns, heat exchangers and package process specifications for equipment and control valves. Experience in developing/checking alarm and trip setpoints and process safety time calculations. Experience in Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) and Line Designation Tables (LDTs) development and review. Experience in Technical Lists development: scoping documents such as equipment lists, PSV list, Specialty Items (SP) list.
Experience in hydraulic calculation development for pumps, compressors, control valves, and line sizing including complex configurations. Experience in Design Pressure and Temperature Diagrams (DPDTs) development – analyzing and determining piping systems design conditions. Experience in 3D model review execution – organizing and conducting a review of the physical design of systems. Experience in supporting project reviews and closure of associated actions: PFDs, P&IDs, HAZi Ds, ENVIDs, HAZOPs and 3D model reviews. Experience working in, or coordination with other disciplines.
Demonstrated experience in Microsoft office programs and other discipline-specific computer programs. Broad knowledge of administrative practices. Excellent written and oral communication abilities along with effective presentation skills. Demonstrated strong frontline leadership skills and emphasis on continuous improvement and team building and an ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license, or willingness to complete. Prior work experience and responsibility for the supervision on a medium or major size project in an engineering discipline at Bechtel.
Experience developing processes from laboratory-scale systems and selecting appropriate equipment for commercial scaling. Knowledge of Bechtel Engineering Department Procedures. Prior management of a function on a large EPC organization. Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, Electric Vehicles, Battery, medicals, or Data Center EPC projects.
