Position Overview and Responsibilities: The Florida Digital Service is searching for an engineer to join the Office of Data Management and help us with many facets of our team. You will be responsible for helping with the implementation and support of our Enterprise Data Catalog.
Your role will help data interoperability efforts by contributing to APIs that make it easier to share data. You will help our agencies move their data into large-scale Data Clouds.
Specific key responsibilities of our Senior Data Engineer include, but is not limited to the following: Review and catalog data management practices at state agencies, including but not limited to: metadata, data dictionaries, policies, standards, platforms, objectives, interoperability, linkage, etc. Support agency data steward efforts including collection and cultivation of metadata, master data, reference data, data interoperability, and data linkage efforts. Support an enterprise data inventory and catalog,
in consultation with all state agencies, describing the data created or collected by each respective agency.
Define and implement Extract Transform Load (ETL) jobs on a wide variety of data sources and apply algorithms that reveal value to analysts and business owners. Develop and monitor APIs. Move data from conventional databases into Data Clouds. Build and maintain dashboards leveraging Business Intelligence tools including but not limited to Power BI, Tableau, and Alteryx. Write programs, appropriate test artifacts, ad hoc queries, and reports. Employ contemporary software development techniques to ensure tests are implemented in a way that supports automation.
Work with other data engineers and provide technical expertise in scalable systems design. Assist team members by building tools to aid analytics and data science efforts. Participate in requirements gathering meetings and review designs with the enterprise. Experience with building web services with. NET technology Experience with Git or other source code repositories. Experience with cloud services. Familiarity with a variety of datasets, structured, semi-structured and unstructured, etc.
Knowledgeable in performance optimization surrounding data delivery and process automation. Knowledge of business intelligence software (including but not limited to Tableau, Alteryx, Power BI) and application of such software. Ability to communicate effectively with different stakeholders, such as data owners, data users, data stewards, and data consumers. Ability to analyze the current state of agency data, identify the gaps and issues, and provide recommendations to leadership for prioritizing actions and improvements.
Ability to apply data governance rules and controls. Ability to use data visualization, analytics, and reporting tools. Ability to ensure data quality, security, and compliance. Preferred Skills: Although not required, some nice to haves include: Experience with one or more Enterprise Data Catalog software platforms Experience with Mulesoft. Experience with Snowflake. Knowledge of MDM, IAM Ability to understand data analysis and machine learning statistics, languages, algorithms and applications using tools such as R, Python, Jupyter, No SQL, Java/Javascript, SAS/EM, SPSS, and/or Matlab.
A bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, statistics, informatics, information systems, or another quantitative field. Utilization of UIPath and Alteryx for automation. Hands-on knowledge of CI/CD practices. Experience in an Agile development team. Minimum Qualifications: Six years of experience with technology projects, a bachelor's degree can substitute for the required experience. Prior experience in software development or data management projects.
