We are looking for an independent, highly motivated, and safety-oriented candidate to join us as a Senior Environmental Engineer. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Serve as an expert for obtaining air permits and managing air compliance programs for the BWO Salt Lake City Refinery and Wyoming assets.
Assist with compliance solutions for a variety of complex technical/regulatory issues. Work closely with Refinery technical, projects, operations, and maintenance teams and develop strong relationships to understand specific processes and develop a permitting and compliance strategy
to ensure support to maintain regulatory compliance while meeting the refinery’s strategic objectives. Achieve expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
Manage deliverables and schedules to established KPIs. Provide training as needed to refinery staff to ensure air quality program knowledge. Conduct independent technical reviews of air quality programs to ensure compliance and quality environmental management programs. Maintain and continuously improve the Environmental Management System for Air Quality programs. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements Experience and knowledge of federal and state Air regulations. Minimum of BS in engineering (chemical, mechanical,
environmental) or related discipline. At least 5 years of solid air quality experience, with a high degree of technical competence in Permitting, NSPS, PSD, NSR, BACT, LAER, and MACT requirements.
Specific UDEQ experience a plus. In-depth understanding of the Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Technology, or Chemical industry. Familiarity with and CEMS, COMS, CPMS, stack testing and fenceline monitoring measurement a plus. Demonstrated leadership ability to build, coach, and mentor collaborative teams. Positive outlook, collaborative, and driven by the success of BWO’s leadership as a strategic regional producer of petroleum products. Good interpersonal skills.
Able to work cooperatively and productively within the Environmental Team and with all other Technical, Operations, Maintenance and Management personnel. A strong understanding of basic refinery processes and the elements of process safety is required for Process Safety Engineering discipline.
Emphasis on power distribution and controls engineering is required of the electrical discipline depending on assignment. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Professional Engineer registration is preferred. Refinery or petrochemical industry experience preferred. Some or all of FCC, CCR, Alky, Sulfur unit, Delayed Coking, Lubes Processing and hydrotreating experience is preferred for Chemical discipline depending on assignment. Education Level A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline is required. Required Skills Ability to manage a project is essential.
Working knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically. Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential. Ability to communicate effectively with others, strong verbal communication skills, advanced level of reading and writing, ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations. Advanced ability to work effectively with multiple groups throughout the refinery. Strong spreadsheet and word processing applications knowledge; strong interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills; ability to provide training to multiple groups on a variety of applicable assigned discipline topics.
Knowledge of various process hazard analysis and root cause analysis methodologies is required for Process Safety Engineering discipline. PREFERRED SKILLS: Working knowledge of and experience with engineering software is preferred. Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility May be responsible for the supervision of personnel as well as contractors. Work Conditions Office and plant based with up to 10% travel required. Mountain Region JOB REQUIREMENTS B. S. in chemical engineering from an accredited university Advanced degrees (M. S. or M. B. A. ) and professional registration are a plus but not required. A minimum of 5 to 15+ years of combined plant operations, troubleshooting, project management, and process design experience.
Must be familiar with typical chemical process engineering deliverables, i. e. process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, heat and mass balances, equipment specifications, etc. Ideal experience includes a variety of unit operations process simulation and design (distillation, heat exchangers, scrubbers, relief valve sizing, etc. ).
