Safety Engineer will be responsible for system safety backssment, reliability predictions and failure mode analysis required for new development programs. This is a unique opportunity to join one of the most experienced, talented, and fastest growing teams in the industry.
Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities : Work with IPT to identify safety critical items, any non-conformances, and offer design alternatives. Generate reliability, maintainability and system safety reports for IPT and customer review. Perform system safety analysis per MIL-STD-882 and SAE ARP4761. Perform Maintainability analysis per MIL-STD-470. Perform reliability predictions per MIL-HDBK-217. Review customer
reliability, safety and maintainability requirements and provide RMS/C analysis. Consider and balance cost, technical, schedule, and risk. The Sr. Reliability and Safety Engineer may be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds.
Work Environment : This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing, and foot protection (as required). Minimum Required Qualifications : Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering.
3+ years of experience in similar role within the aerospace industry which must include Reliability, Maintainability and Safety engineering analysis New Product Development experience in aerospace/military industry.
Experience in electromechanical design and testing preferred. Strong documentation and writing skills. Experience using reliability analysis tools like Relex, Weibull ++, Reliasoft XFRACAS. Ability to work closely with a team of engineers and technicians. Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Execute breadboard level tests on new development products. Guide and mentor junior electrical engineers. Travel: Expect up to 10% domestic travel. Qualifications : Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. A minimum of 5 years of experience designing electrical circuits in the aerospace industry. The engineer shall work within a multi-disciplined organization and enlist the help of other disciplines when necessary, such as other engineers, manufacturing, purchasing, and quality assurance. Design Electromechanical Actuators from a blank sheet of paper to meet customer requirements.
Design of spur, bevel, worm, and planetary gears Design and analysis of kinematic mechanisms i. e. Slider Crank, Scotch Yoke, 4-Bar Sizing and selection of Ball Screws capable of meeting system performance requirements Sizing and selection of Bearings (Radial, Thrust, Angular contact) to meet loads and life necessary to meet system performance Familiar with Brushless DC motor design Create and modify
drawings with appropriate GD&T, documentation of change and efficacy. Verify Bill of Material. Ensure accuracy of drawings. Design cost effective easily manufacturable hardware taking into account: tolerance stack-ups ease of assembly meet customer installation requirements materials of construction methods of manufacture mechanical environment (Thermal and Vibe) and Application Loading preliminary analytical results (Hand calcs and FEA) mistake proofing Disposition non-conforming hardware and correct production/vendor issues.
Perform failure investigations of designs. Create/Review and Approve processes for assembly, test, and related activities to the development and qualification testing
of a design. Interface with internal and external customers to determine product changes needed for applications as a representative of the company.
Write technical documents for internal and external customers. Participate in design reviews (internal and external) Support new business pursuits that address program technical requirements and associated schedule and costs.
