The Optical Engineer I performs tasks related to deploying new technologies and upgrades to the current core and optical network infrastructure.
Up to half of the expected responsibility of this position involves analysis, design, development, and testing. What you will do to contribute to the company's success Set forth below is a list of the essential duties and responsibilities (or " essential functions" ) of this position. Performs implementation of new hardware and/or software
as it relates to Core Engineering projects. Maintains the lifecycle management environment within the Data Center and Local Offices; Assists with upgrades to the Core Infrastructure Assists with the creation of Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation for configuration templates, method of procedures, network diagrams, knowledge base articles, bill of materials and support documentation.
Conducts training for new technology integration, technology upgrades, new product design, and implementation to relevant Cable One team members. Analyzes project requests to estimate time and cost. Works as part of a project team to determine requirements, risks, and limitations for each project scope.
Performs on-call duties, customer equipment escalations, and overnight network changes as assigned Other duties and/or responsibilities not specifically set forth above may, however, be assigned as needed.

Bachelor's degree (B. A. ) or equivalent from four-year college or university, and at least three years related experience. Equivalent experience may substitute for education requirement. Previous working background in an MSO (Multiple System Operators) in the cable industry preferred. Network design and implementation project experience in one or more of the following areas preferred - routing, co-location architecture, Optical Networks.
Experience with the following vendor products preferred: Routing platforms from Juniper, Nokia, Ciena & Cisco. Experience with IPv4, IPv6, DWDM, SDN, and other relevant technologies and/or standards preferred Associate-level networking certification preferred. Proficiency in networking essentials, especially related to routing. Proficiency in Optical Networking. Familiar with TOADM, FOADM and ROADM architectures. Knowledge or experience in automation and scripting preferred Ability to manage vendor relationships.
