Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking an experienced Loads & Dynamics Engineer or Principal Engineer within our Vehicle Engineering team in Melbourne, FL. The Loads & Dynamics Engineer specializes in vehicle structural dynamics and external
loads supporting an existing production program. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter and will be proactive, forward-thinking, and able to work with a small team to rapid resolution of complex problems.
CURRENT CLEARANCE PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED. Responsibilities may include: Working with a small team and under supervision of a lead engineer, will be responsible for performing flutter, whirl flutter, aeroservoelastic, gust response, flight loads, ground loads, and/or sonic fatigue analysis, as well as support equipment vibration and shock environmental qualification Makes real-time decisions during loads and flutter flight testing, including those that could
affect aircrew safety Collaborates across key disciplines to develop data needed for analyses listed above Presents key technical information to other engineering disciplines and management in diplomatic and professional approach Requisition may be filled as an Engineer (level 2) or Principal Engineer (level 3) depending on the qualifications below.
Basic Qualifications: Engineer: Bachelor of Science in a related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 2 years relevant experience; OR Master of Science in a related STEM discipline Principal Engineer: Bachelor of Science in a related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years relevant experience; OR Master of Science in a related STEM discipline with 3 years relevant experience; OR Ph.
D. in a related STEM discipline with 1+ years of relevant experience Ability to obtain and maintain a Do D Secret clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) clearance Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering with an emphasis on aircraft loads (flight loads, ground loads, flutter and aeroelasticity, etc. ) Strong foundation in structural dynamic analysis and able to quickly learn complex concepts related to any of the above listed analysis methods Knowledge of flutter flight test instrumentation including excitation systems, accelerometers, strain gages, sample rates, anti-aliasing, and telemetry data processing techniques Prior experience supporting air vehicle flight testing and ground vibration testing (GVT) or loads calibration Ability to extract modal parameters using methods such as FRF curve fit, half-power damping, log-dec, time history curve fit within IADS or internally developed tools Knowledge and familiarity with post flight data processing and the resulting data products pertaining to loads, flutter, and dynamics Knowledge of Structural Dynamics and Aeroelasticity design and test requirements including military standards and specifications Knowledge of ground and flight loads and load mitigation Understanding of operational limits, interim flight clearances, and FAA or USN aircraft certification process Experience with vibration, vibro-acoustics, shock response, and environment generation Experience in the use of industry standard loads and dynamics analysis software: NASTRAN, PATRAN, FEMAP, ZONAIR, ZAERO, FEMtools, Simcenter Testlab Experience with MATLAB, CAD Tools (NX), IADS, Fortran, Visual Studio Salary Range: $75,300 - $112,900 Salary Range 2: $92,600 - $139,000The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
