The purpose of this position is to serve as the technical leader to focus on the Automation and Robotics for future and existing general fabrication and assembly lines in our Americas plants and should have extensive practical and hands on experience in all aspects of Robotics applications for automated sheet metal fabrication systems, welding processes, powder coating process, and semi-automated assembly processes.
This role will be the primary representative for the manufacturing team within the cross functional process & technology
teams. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Automation Engineer works with other departments to develop automation plans that align with company business goals.
Lead all controls and automation capital projects at BAC Americas manufacturing sites and manage end-to-end delivery of capital projects on new and innovative technology equipment, controls, and automation. You are the regional and site expert on controls and automation systems. Provides leadership in the management of software modification and optimizing programming and maintains all records. Responsible for the design/selecting robotic system, run simulation, programming, implementation, and commissioning. Provides technical expertise
and input into reliability issues for factory systems: SCADA, PLC, HMI, DCS, variable speed control, servo-motion control to maximize plant efficiency and reliability.
Support and assist controls engineer in troubleshooting breakdowns and equipment failure. Generation of RFP/RFQs for automation equipment to support the automation in various manufacturing processes. Develop maintenance documents and training materials. Identify, develop, and specify any new equipment/technology. Lead and/or support regional implementation of equipment, as appropriate. Support cost estimates/analysis and make appropriate recommendations regarding the manufacturing processes of new platforms and technologies.
Coordinate handoffs from Global project teams to support the regional launch of new platforms/technologies. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Bachelor of Science in electrical, mechatronics, or robotics engineering. 5+ years of experience in Robotic programming and application. Excellent robotic background and programming skills on various programming languages and systems. Software and PLC programming knowledge desirable. Technical expertise complemented by self-motivation, relationship building skills, and effective communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information.
Knowledge of AI and machine learning applications. Demonstrated project management skills, experience with Agile methodologies preferred. Demonstrated strong engineering skills, including 2D/3D CAD design and GD&T experience. Demonstrated proficiency for data collection, analysis, presentation, and decision making. Experience with DFMA and PFMEA desirable. Experience with change management methodologies preferred. Experience with industrial equipment, automation & Io T preferred.
