is hiring a Senior Engineer, Electric Asset Management for its Transmission Asset Management NE division in Waltham, Massachusetts. This is a hybrid position (MA, RI, NH) with office visits 1-2 times per week. sometimes more, plus storm duty. US Colleagues must reside within our existing footprint, which includes contiguous states (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont).
Job Purpose An Asset Management Engineer develops strategies/plans and oversees their execution to enable National Grid to maintain or improve reliability and optimize the return on investment from the assets related to electrical transmission in New England (typically greater than 69
k V). The successful candidate will have knowledge of electric transmission assets as well as compliance obligations around the proper classification of these assets (based on NERC, NPCC, Regional and Local requirements), which ultimately drive facility design characteristics, asset tracking and reporting.
Engineer level/title will be commensurate with the successful candidate's level of education, experience and knowledge. What You'll Do Lead the identification and formulation of strategic initiatives specific to electrical transmission assets Develop informed, comprehensive technical asset plans for maintenance and capital investment in order to improve business performance in the medium
(up to five years) and longer term (up to 15 years. ) Lead interdisciplinary technical teams to evaluate solution options and develop project scopes, cost estimates and project schedules applying National Grid's Project Playbook process.
Recommend asset condition-based capital projects to internal National Grid management to obtain Delegation of Authority and seek approval from external stakeholders as part of the New England open access planning process. Develop and implement processes, tools and documentation for Transmission Planning & Asset Management to maintain compliance with ISO New England rules/policies, NPCC Criteria/Directories, NERC Standards, and FERC Orders.
Research new technologies, investigate implementation strategies, and drive the conceptual development of innovative projects/solutions. About You A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited engineering program, or strong, equivalent experience 5- 8 years of experience strongly preferred. Familiarity with NERC Transmission Planning Standards, NPCC Criteria and ISO and State level Transmission Planning rules with ability to understand how changes in those standards impact National Grid Ability to interpret results and recommendations from transmission asset engineering reports and transmission system analytical studies.
Engineering reports include, but are not limited to, asset condition backssments, Process Hazard Analyses, environmental backssments and external industry publications. Analytical studies include power system thermal, voltage, and reactive analyses, as well as transient, dynamic, harmonic, and short circuit analyses as they relate to system reliability, economics, and operating flexibility. Collaboratively develop and/or implement policies, processes and procedures relative to Transmission Planning and Transmission Asset Strategy Demonstrates strong negotiating and influencing skills with the ability to make persuasive presentations to small and large audiences.
