You will work with other BPMI stakeholders and supplier personnel to confirm compliance to contract requirements, resolve manufacturing issues, and perform independent backssment of the supplier's ability to meet needs. Specific responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: Quality and compliance oversight responsibilities for component(s) assigned.
Review contract specifications for proper application of requirements. Auditing, over-inspection, and cause and corrective action reviews. Support BPMI engineering activities such as input to vendor technical submittals, risk mitigation initiatives, process improvements, and problem resolution.
Measure manufacturing progress against contract milestones and schedules, backss reasons for delays, and work with the supplier and BPMI personnel to recover the established schedule.
Team with supplier to perform backssments at critical subtier suppliers to identify issues, monitor progress, and backss capability. Independent backssment of vendor performance metrics. Identify cost and span reduction opportunities. Document and communicate key oversight activities with stakeholders. Periodic (~5-10%) travel to BPMI, other BWXT sites, and BWXT subtier suppliers is expected. Since the BWXT production facilities typically operate on a 24/7 schedule, the PFO resident position offers some
work schedule flexibility. Work conditions can include working in confined spaces, areas that are not temperature controlled, elevated platforms and lifts, etc.

Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is a project engineering organization supporting the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. BPMI provides design, manufacturing, and supply chain management of the fabrication, testing, delivery, installation, and field support of nuclear power plant components installed in submarines and aircraft carriers. In addition, BPMI provides upgraded replacement components in support of refueling and overhaul activities, and aids in the ultimate storage and disposition of spent naval fuel. BPMI also delivers information technology and operational solutions to the Nuclear Navy, enabling them to fulfill their critical mission.
The PFO is an integral part of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program's strategy to ensure that reactor plant components are built and delivered as intended. Resident engineers in this office use their unique vantage point to provide daily quality and manufacturing oversight of reactor plant components fabricated by BWXT. They foster an effective working environment among the other PFO residents, BWXT NOG, and BPMI to ensure products are of high quality (compliant and with minimized defects) and affordable, all while being delivered on time to support end user needs.
The resident position is a unique and challenging assignment where you will obtain and apply detailed knowledge of fabrication processes (machining, welding, inspection, nondestructive testing, stress relief, assembly, etc. ), manufacturing technologies (such as automated welding, robotics, advanced nondestructive testing, laser tracker, and CNC controls/programming), and key manufacturing parameters (such as throughput, efficiency, planning, and scheduling).
