Directs the development of long-range planning for utility improvements and upgrades to the existing system. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Engineering. Supervision is exercised over subordinate departmental personnel. Minimum Qualifications
: Candidate must have knowledge of theory, principles and practices of civil engineering related to the area assigned, modern methods and techniques as applied to the design, construction and maintenance of utility projects, and survey systems, methods and techniques; ability to survey in both urban and rural areas over varying terrain, instruct subordinate personnel in proper work methods and supervise their work; be skilled in the use of engineering instruments and equipment, computers and software related to engineering and Cityworks, plus typical Microsoft Office documents such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of job-related experience
required. Must possess a valid driver's license and be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia; work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays when necessary; enter and exit confined spaces, such as trenches, manholes, and pumping stations; and the ability to handle loads of up to 125 pounds.
Experience in hydraulic modeling preferred, but not required. Ability to work remotely.
