Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector has an immediate need for a Manufacturing Engineer to support the manufacturing assembly area at our Sykesville, MD facility. The Sykesville manufacturing team is a leading innovator, developer, manufacturer,
integrator, and supporter of a variety of advanced electronics for national security and non-defense applications. The Manufacturing Engineer will provide manufacturing technical expertise and direction for the assembly of large mechanical and electrical systems.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the tasks outlined below: Floor Support: Solving of manufacturing problems related to materials, designs, equipment, people in a timely manner to support production Developing new and maintaining existing manufacturing processes with a focus on efficiency and quality Developing and revising process documentation and work instruction Assisting with the training of new personnel
and participating in the design of operator training materials Supporting factory maintenance personnel with the troubleshooting and repair of process equipment Creating and documenting designs for custom tooling Specifying, identifying and procuring new manufacturing equipment for production readiness and preparing equipment for production Project Engineering Operates successfully in a team atmosphere Interfacing with both internal and external stakeholders and customers Facilitates Problem Solving process including data gathering, analysis, and presentation Uses Kaizen and LEAN concepts as aides to problem resolution Maintains and continuously develops technical knowledge in processes and products, relevant technologies, and problem solving methodology Creating and managing manufacturing project plans (tasks, resources, schedules) for continuous improvement activities Providing ROI justification for operations improvement efforts Developing and implementing CI tools and methods that support operations execution Monitoring key process indicators, including yields, cost and process capability Recommending and implementing process changes that improve safety, quality, cost and schedule based on the above metrics Miscellaneous: Providing Request for Proposal (RFP) input specifically as it relates to Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) requirements such as tooling, capital equipment and/or new process development Recommending product design improvements for manufacturability Participating in design producibility reviews for new products The chosen candidate must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high visibility environment; must work well in a team environment; and must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
This job may be filled as a Principal Engineer or a Senior Principal Engineer based on the qualifications below.
Basic Qualifications for a Principal: Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related STEM area 5+ years of relevant professional experience (or 3+ years with an MS) Process Engineering experience in a manufacturing operations environment Fluency in MS Office software applications Ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret Security Clearance (US Citizenship is required. ) Preferred Qualifications for a Principal: Lean Manufacturing Experience and/or Certification 3D Solid Modeling experience using a CAD software Six Sigma Green Belt certification or better Experience in electro-mechanical assembly processes.
Strong project leadership, continuous improvement, and communication skills. Familiarity with J-STD and MIL-STD requirements 3D modeling experience in Unigraphics/NX for assembly tooling, concept development, and tool creation Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Experience with SAP or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system desired.
