work planning, implementing, evaluating, and delivering health promotion and health education programs and performing outreach activities to the community and certain target groups the community has deemed at risk.

Provides behavioral modification methodology to promote healthy lifestyles in the areas of HIV prevention, smoking cessation, nutrition, injury prevention, and chronic disease management to clients and the community.

Plans and coordinates the development and implementation of a variety of health promotion and public health education programs and projects which may include family planning, HIV/STD/TB, smoking cessation, tobacco prevention and control, nutrition, etc.

Provides educational support activities for tuberculosis, HIV, and STD clients in the health unit clinics. Develops, implements, and evaluates surveys to identify health promotion and health education needs for clients and/or community.

Analyzes demographic maps to locate and target areas where educational programs will be most effective. Collects and reviews data, prepares reports and statistical charts and graphs to be used for educational purposes. Serves as resource specialist in specialist areas of health information and health promotion and public health education including design and distribution of written materials and support aids. Develops, coordinates, and promotes issues

that provide knowledge and behavior modification skills that will contribute to healthy lifestyles.

Serves on task forces and advisory committees of community and health related agencies. Serves as health promotion and public health education advisor to other agencies and staff and coordinates training to county public health unit staff and to nurses, physicians, and other health professionals outside the agency. Reviews and evaluates county public health unit education practices to ensure compliance with applicable statutes, rules, and regulations. Writes grant proposals and manages grants. Performs related work as required. Ability to collect and analyze data. Ability to evaluate health education practices for compliance with applicable statutes, rules and regulations. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to prepare a wide variety of written material such as reports, memoranda, pamphlets, curricula, lesson plans and grant requests. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Qualifications : A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in health education, community, or public health, and one year of professional experience in providing health education services; or A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, one of the biological sciences, education, public relations, communications or one of the behavioral sciences and two years of professional experience in providing health education services; or A master's degree from an accredited college or university in health education, community or public health can substitute for the required year of professional experience.
