Licensures & Certification for the Career Coach: Certified Professional Career Coach (preferred) Driver’s license Obtain and maintain Department of Corrections’ security clearance Details of the Pre-Release Career Coach The Pre-release Career Coach is responsible for facilitating participants’ group education and job training sessions. This will involve conducting participants’ job readiness and job coaching interventions

to prepare participants for job placement, retention, and promotion in careers consistent with their Life Plan, within a correctional facility. Working Conditions: This position works primarily within a correctional facility and may require travel between prisons and the headquarters facility in Richmond, VA.

Availability for some evening and weekend work is required. Job Responsibilities of Pre-Release Career Coach: Perform group sessions and make periodic site visits. Frequent, supportive communications with participants is foundational for effectiveness in this role. Ensure the quality and fidelity of program content when delivering training in group settings. Document interactions

within 4 hours after the session using the guideline: If It is not documented, it did not happen.

Facilitate evaluation of participant Life Plan progress; refine goals as appropriate and identify necessary support. Effectively collaborate with other members of the participant support team (i. e. Pre-Release Therapist and Pre-Release Case Manager) to continuously advance participants’ job readiness during transition from pre- to post-release. Employ andragogy, coaching, and motivational interviewing techniques to gauge participant progress and encourage retention across program employment phases. Maintain positive and professional relationships with participants, team members, volunteers, and community partners.

Adhere to all best practices established for Pre-Release Career Coach role. Qualifications of Pre-Release Career Coach Experience in conducting group intervention sessions Knowledge of motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and delivering manualized interventions. Ability to build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships, leverage information and achieve results.

Ability to maintain professional boundaries and develop appropriate therapeutic relationships. Skilled in writing and maintaining computer-based participant records. Able to handle countertransference. Able to resolve conflict in crisis situations, redirect and set boundaries, and pivot as new priorities arise in the day. Able to plan and organize work activities; manage several tasks at once; and routinely meet deadlines. Ability to maintain performance and self-control under pressure or adversity. Knowledge and impact of trauma. Knowledge of high-impact instructional practices and classroom management techniques Ability to perform duties with fidelity, skill, and heart.

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit and stand for reasonable length of time delivering interventions and entering data. Must be able to see, hear, speak, walk, and sit. Must be able to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
