provide strategic leadership and growth in Clemson’s capacity in human factors for enhancing clinical operations and patient safety at Prisma Health, and further develop health-related human factors research collaborations across South Carolina. The ideal candidate will be an established national leader in HFE, that can lead and strengthen a partnership with the Health Sciences Center at Prisma Health.

Research activities will involve collaborating with Clemson and Prisma Health faculty to increase grant submissions for extramural funding to organizations such as NIH and NSF, and to facilitate the submission of manuscripts to high impact journals in the field. This strategic collaborative

between Clemson University and Prisma Health aims to advance pioneering research and application of HFE principles to improve the processes and experience of giving and receiving care, and to improve patient and provider safety, health, and wellness outcomes.

Areas of research interest include, but are not limited to, the following: • Usability, human-centered design, and ergonomics improvements of healthcare technologies such as medical imaging devices, surgical robotics, patient monitors, electronic medical records, or other patient care/delivery devices. • Workplace-interventions addressing worker physical/cognitive performance, health and/or safety. • Applications of human systems

engineering principles for developing targeted process improvement initiatives.

• Teamwork, Training, and multiteam systems, particularly inter-professional healthcare teamwork and collaboration (increasing productivity and minimizing information loss in patient handoffs) The faculty member will be hired at Clemson and closely affiliated with the Health Sciences Center of Prisma Health. A joint appointment in other academic units is also possible. The Clemson University School of Health Research is a strategic point of facilitation for faculty engaged in health-related research across Clemson to connect with clinical collaborators. The Department of Industrial Engineering currently has 23 full-time faculty members with anticipated growth to 28 faculty members within the next few years.

We have a student population of 500 undergraduate students, 125 on-campus M. S. students, and 45 Ph. D. students. D. in industrial engineering, industrial/organization psychology, human factors engineering, healthcare management, or closely related fields. A strong focus on healthcare applications, established clinical collaborations, and history of inter-disciplinary work across the domains of human factors, systems engineering, psychology, computational modeling, technology implementation, will be strongly preferred.

Competitive candidates will also demonstrate leadership in developing and sustaining an independent, rigorous, externally funded research program.
