Advertised Job Summary: The College of Social Work at the University of South Carolina seeks a part-time public benefit consultant to assist in Kin Carolina, an intervention study funded by the Duke Endowment, to provide services for kinship caregivers who raise children with disabilities in South Carolina.

The benefits consultant will work with a multi-university team to assist kinship families in navigating public benefits and help kinship families make informed decisions on financial stipends. We seek a motivated and experienced candidate with a strong, in-depth knowledge of public benefits and human services. Job Purpose/Description The Kin Carolina Benefit Consultant will: Schedule, implement, and track an initial and follow-up virtual meeting with kinship caregivers in program; provide daytime and evening time options to caregivers.

At time of enrollment, assist kinship families in understanding how receiving compensation from the program could impact their eligibility for benefits. Assist kinship families in understanding the public assistance programs available in SC and their eligibility for them. Assist kinship families in submitting financial assistance forms and follow-up with relevant departments or organizations as needed.

Provide consultation, training, and information about public benefits to research team as needed. Attend virtual training about navigating systems with caregivers (once every six months) and answer questions from caregivers about benefits as needed. Participate in bi-weekly team meetings. Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in social work or related discipline. Preferred: Strong communication skills and management skills; In-depth knowledge of different types of public assistance, the application process, and eligibility in South Carolina; Experience working with vulnerable populations; Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and virtual meeting platforms Number of Vacancies: 1 Desired Start Date: 01/02/2024 Job Open Date: 11/29/2023 Open Until Filled: Yes Special Instructions to Applicant: This position is open until filled.
