A master’s degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. REQUIREMENTS: Occasional to moderate travel required. Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

NOTES: Successful applicant must pass a background screening, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment. JOB DUTIES : Conduct and coordinate fire prevention activities as directed and assigned by the immediate supervisor. This shall include, but not be limited to, prescribed burning programs under F. S. 590, prescribed burning on state lands, knowledge of burning regulations, participation in programs, fairs, exhibits and other events that require the Florida Forest Service’s presence.

Plan and coordinate the execution of cost analysis and feasibility studies of burning, and develop fire prevention plans and associated methodologies for fuel reduction and fire prevention. Provide information and coordinate with local media as needed. Inform and educate the general public and specific groups regarding wildland fire prevention. This position will be part of the Incident Command System and will act as Information Officer during ongoing incidents. Prepare copy for news release services, utilizing computer software, either via electronic mail or hard copy print, of the fire danger, special occurrences and other items which help in the flow of information to protect the health, welfare and safety of the affected citizens.

Act as point of contact for media related to wildfire issues, give interviews and coordinate incident visits for the media and VIPs. Coordinate activities with the State Office Information Coordinator as requested. Use still, digital and video camera equipment to record ongoing events and promulgate pictures and videos of such quality as to make available for distribution and training. Work with local fire services and other agencies to establish a mechanism to decrease man-caused fires.

This may include the use of Arson Task Force Committees, joint planning and other programs which lower the fire starts in the field unit. Develop Incident Action Plans that will enhance emergency response and reduce damage potential during wildland/urban interface fires. Perform related work as required.
