Job Snapshot: As an Environmental Project Professional with S&ME, you'll be involved with environmental projects and provide client-focused customer service in the public sector, manufacturing, energy, and real-estate markets. You'll perform environmental site backssments, remedial investigations, remedial design, environmental permitting and compliance, data management, and reporting. This position will include a mix of
both field and office work associated with environmental evaluations. You'll interact with clients, contractors, regulators, local government officials, and the public to help our clients complete their projects while adhering to environmental regulations and sustainable business goals.
Project management - Expected to lead projects with minimal guidance from senior staff. Manage small to medium projects from start to finish. Consult with senior professional staff on technical or policy issues. Must be highly motivated and have strong organizational and time management skills; Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; Strong work ethic and professional demeanor;
Attention to detail. Field sampling and observations - Plan and conduct investigations requiring drilling, sampling, field observations, and data collection.
Coordinate and lead teams during field investigations. Engineering or technical computations - The preferred candidate will have field experience working at Superfund and other contaminated sites, leading field programs, preparing planning documents and preparing reports for environmental characterization and remediation projects. Candidates will be expected to perform and/or review calculations before incorporation into reports; review laboratory data for completeness; evaluate results, interpret data trends; and formulate recommendations.
May also be called on to independently verify calculations or analyses performed by other staff or critically review work of other consultants. Report preparation - Responsible for coordination and preparation of report submittals, following good technical practice and in conformance with company policy. Prepare professional reports under supervision of a licensed professional geologist or engineer. Subject to technical and editorial review by senior reviewer as required under the project plan. Proposal preparation - Under direction of a senior reviewer, develop scope and fee proposals for small to medium size projects involving routine technical objectives.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology or related field. 4 to 10 years of environmental consulting experience. Knowledge of environmental sampling and testing methods. General knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Experience interacting with regulatory agencies/representatives. OSHA 1910.120 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training. Willing and able to travel and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in engineering, geology or related field Professional registration in North Carolina; or ability to obtain in the future.
