We specialize in high-performance marine craft design and engineering yet support all types of vessels and clients from record-setting high-speed race boats to commercial marine tugs and barges like Capt Bud.

Position Summary and Responsibilities We are seeking an energetic and talented Naval Architect II for our Chesapeake, VA operations to design steel, aluminum, and composite recreational vessels, commercial ships, and U. S. Government programs ranging from 20’ to 250’ feet in length. As a member

of a multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for applying standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to support all conventional aspects of marine vessel design.

The ideal candidate is a Naval Architect with extensive experience and knowledge of the design process. Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to: Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in naval architecture and knowledge of principles and practices of related technologies: Weight estimates, stability analysis, structural analysis, drawing review, & boat inspections. Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria for design and

modification of boats and craft. Works independently and/or as a team member to develop complete design definition.

Interface with existing and potential clients regularly to convey technical information clearly and accurately. Required Qualifications: U. S. Citizenship is required and candidates must be able to obtain a Secret US Do D security clearance B. S. Degree or higher in Naval Architecture 2+ Years of related experience with small craft design Requires a broad knowledge of naval architecture and an in-depth knowledge of principles, practices and related technologies Strong knowledge of specifications and regulatory requirements (BS/RINA/LR/ISO/USCG/ABYC) Knowledge and experience with developing calculations and drawings for Class and Flag review and approval.

Strong analytical experience and solving technical problems Proficiency in using industry-standard CAD software, including Auto CAD and Rhino Experience in using GHS hydrostatics and stability software Excellent MS Office skills, including Word, Power Point, and Excel Demonstrated Interpersonal Skills as a member of a Collaborative multidisciplinary team Strong Time Management and Organization Skills as an Independent Contributor. Desired Qualifications: Experience in using FEMAP/NASTRAN Finite Element Analysis software Shipyard Experience Pay Range: Pay Range $65,000.00 - $117,500.00 The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
