FLSA Status: Exempt Position Description The instructional designer will work to design and develop instructional material for criminal justice programs, both classroom-based and e-learning format, to help learners acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies in an effective and appealing manner. This position will also assist with the planning, coordination, facilitation, and
implementation of curriculum committee meetings. Responsibilities Apply tested learning theories and instructional design theories, practices, and methods Collaborate with subject-matter experts (SMEs) to identify what learners should be able to do or know following instruction Facilitate internal meetings and curriculum development meetings Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts Develop measurable instructional goals and performance objectives and ensure that content matches those goals and objectives Develop or revise content to match learning needs Maintain project documentation and development of course materials Design, develop, and organize content, activities, and physical/electronic files to ensure accuracy and consistency during the maintenance process Design and develop products to support learning (e.
g. audio, video, role plays, games, and visual aids for face-to-face instruction and various multimedia, such as simulations, for e-learning and online) Coordinate with various departments within the organization to create course materials Develop criteria used to judge learners' performance and develop backssment instruments Adapt instructional materials created for one format to another format (usually this is adapting materials from face-to-face instruction to e-learning) Maintain currency on the latest in emerging instructional design techniques and technologies, to include blended and online learning environments Develop course content according to a set list of accreditation standards, if applicable Document sources of external media used in course development; when necessary, obtain permission for media use from the originator Collaborate with other instructional design members within the company to share best practices Other duties, as assigned Knowledge and Skills Bachelor's degree in a related field Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field or near completion of master's degree, with equivalent training and experience preferred Minimum two to three years of directly related experience designing and storyboarding classroom, online learning, and e-learning products Strong understanding of sound instructional design principals (ADDIE, SAM, Kirkpatrick, Keller) and the proper utilization of technology to enhance training delivery Strong interpersonal skills and business acumen to interact with many different departments and decision makers within and outside of the organization Detail-oriented Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing Ability to work in a team-oriented environment Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the Internet Familiarity with course development tools, such as Snag It, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, or Articulate; Adobe e Learning Suite; and other design software tools Physical Demands and Work Environment Most work is performed in a remote work environment through a highly productive and fast-paced team approach.
