The Weather Applications Team develops scientific algorithms and software applications to integrate weather intelligence for Department of Defense interests to support the warfighter and produce innovative solutions to support NASA, NOAA, and commercial interests.
The candidate's key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Creating and enhancing ground-breaking algorithms and applications using numerical weather modeling Optimizing numerical weather model execution based-on specific customer requirements Applying
data assimilation techniques Collaborating with AI/ML engineer Leading technical research and development tasks Leading technical communication tasks such as proposal writing, reports, and presentations for customers Developing and programming innovative weather-based algorithms based on customer requirements and constraints The ideal candidate provides independent thinking and initiative to design and develop innovative research solutions to CFD Research customers and stakeholders' challenges.

The candidate will have the opportunity to explore additional areas of interest to develop their own ideas for grant applications and new products. The candidate will be based at our company headquarters, located in Huntsville, Alabama. This position is not eligible for remote work. Basic Qualifications: Candidate must be a US Citizen and meet eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a security clearance Advanced Degree (Master's or Ph D) in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Computer Science, Physics, or related discipline (equivalent experience may substitute for graduate degree) Experience compiling, executing, and analyzing one or more NWP models such as WRF, UFS, GFS, MM5 or other NWP systems Experience using weather data assimilation systems such as WRFDA Candidate should have least 2 years of scientific or applied research experience (including graduate work) Candidate must demonstrate fluency in Python or C++ Technical writing experience including lead roles in technical reports, peer-reviewed papers, and proposal writing Self-driven with excellent and creative problem-solving skills and a willingness to mentor and coach others Experience reading and processing real-time and archived meteorological data sets such as HDF5, Net CDF, GRIB, and JSON data formats Proficient with the Linux and Windows operating systems Other Qualifications: -Experience applying artificial intelligence/machine learning techniques Use of programming version control such as Git Advanced knowledge in meteorological data visualization Experience working with Defense applications from either civilian or military background About CFD Research: Since its inception in 1987, CFD Research has been a technology leader in engineering simulations and innovative designs.
