DUTIES The Polymer Synthesis Chemist will perform a wide variety of duties essential to the manufacture of chemical products while consistently adhering to all established safety and operating procedures. This includes but is not limited to: Act as a synthetic scientist providing expertise in lab and scale up of alkoxylate materials and other chemistries to support new product development and custom manufacturing.
Hands on operation of laboratory alkoxylation and amination reactors and additional lab chemistries in glassware as needed. Able to use Design of Experiment methodology for designing new products and to elucidate root cause of product challenges. Provide
structure-property design to new products. Provide technical expertise and assistance to the Monument R&D, Sales, Marketing, Quality Assurance, and operations for commercialization of products.
Document results in lab notebook and electronic records of testing data for projects and lab reports include technical transfer documents. Work with the business development team, applications' team and QC Lab to bring online additional testing capabilities for new products and customer manufacturing. Keep abreast of literature and patents appliable to project chemistries. Curiosity and Drive to bring new products to market. Possible travel to support customers ( Committed to safe work conditions
in laboratory environment. QUALIFICATIONS BS/BA degree required, advanced degree preferred in applicable science field such as organic chemistry, material science, polymer science or engineering.
Bachelor's degree with 15 years of experience, MS degree with 10 years of experience or Ph D with 5+ years of experience in polymer synthesis. Specific Polyurethane polyol experience is preferred. Hands on / working experience in lab Scale up of products in pilot plant. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and to support new product development opportunities. Ability to support the launch of new product to identified market areas. Flexibility in chemistries, projects, able to transition projects as needed.
Able to provide leadership and mentor technicians and other scientist as needed. Good organizational, time management, verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Audit and edit lab related documents (i. e. ISO, SQF, etc. ). Generate, interpret and disseminate Statistical Quality Control data to Manufacturing, Technical Service and customers. Develop new inspection methods and improve efficiency of existing methods including providing support to implement and train personnel. Determine precision
and accuracy of analytical methods by conducting statistical studies.
Assist Manufacturing, Technical Service and customers regarding analytical methods and analyses. Assist the Pilot Plant/R&D during new product development. Implementation of new instrumentation and equipment. Identify instruments/equipment needed to efficiently provide analyses. Identify, stock, and manage expiration dates of critical spare parts and supplies. Assure lab is equipped with critical level of supplies and instrumentation. Responsible for reliability of instrumentation including but not limited to management of PM's, troubleshooting, and calibration reviews (GC, GC headspace, LC, GPC, TOC, NIR, AA (flame & graphite), ICP, FTIR, Brookfield & Kinematic Viscosity, Karl Fisher, etc.
). Support management to reinforce training and capability of Quality Control Technicians to properly perform methods and best lab practices. Troubleshoot and correct any analytical deficiencies (instrument, method, etc. ) in a timely manner. Provide leadership on technical and personnel issues. Prepare " manual" COA's as needed for product shipment. Assure Main Lab conforms to current ISO, SQF and FDA Standards. Drive continual improvement for quality management systems. Actively participate in the implementation of all Human Resources processes and initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree Chemistry or Chemical Engineering; Master's Degree Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, preferred. 5 years of related work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Good organization, time management, verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated analytical and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to master specific product/process and equipment knowledge. Proficient in MS Office and SAP.

Customer Sample De-formulations- Use analytical chemistry to determine composition of samples submitted by customers Use established and improvised techniques with a variety of analytical instruments including GPC, GC-MS, FTIR, NMR, TGA, DSC, XRF, auto-titrators Work closely with Monument Technical Service and Sales to obtain de-formulation samples, prioritizing samples, utilizing their knowledge, and informing them of the results Analysis of Development & Production Samples: Support routine production and development of new products through analysis of Pilot Plant and Laboratory-produced samples and work with the Technical Center Staff during all stages of new product development Help solve
