The Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing testing on specimens, maintaining instrumentation and equipment, documentation and reporting results to appropriate authorities This is a full time position with a 1pm-9:30pm schedule at our Central Lab at our administrative office in Tigard.
The schedule is Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays DUTIES: Follow established laboratory procedures authorized by the Laboratory Director for all aspects of the testing process to include pre-analytical, analytical, and
post analytical functions Performs only those tests that are within current licensure that are authorized by the Sr. Medical Technologist, Laboratory Director and requested by licensed clinicians authorized to order diagnostic testing in the State of Oregon Performs and verifies laboratory tests accurately, reporting within specified turn around times Records test results accurately into the Laboratory Information System.
Monitor quality of and trouble shoot potential problems with laboratory instruments. Perform preventative maintenance on lab equipment Run and evaluate quality control specimens on all assays and procedures as required. Troubleshoot if necessary. Assist in the evaluation
of the new assay procedures. Conduct inventory of lab supplies, replenish supplies and discard containers.
Maintain a clean work area and dispose of bio-hazardous waste properly. Assists in updating lab procedure manuals. Prepare specimens for transfer as needed. Enter test data into computer, maintain logs and records, and compile statistics for control data. Answer phone and notify proper personnel regarding unexpected or action limit test results. Correctly identify and label patient samples. Takes responsibility for and demonstrates safe work practices. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Maintains WHA confidentiality standards. Attends WHA and clinic meetings.
Models The Values Statement and The Patient Experience of WHA QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or related science or the equivalent combination of classroom training and/or work experience required. Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist, ASCP, or equivalent certification required. Prior experience with or the ability to learn practice management and lab software required. Proficient in each area of laboratory testing. Prefer at least three years of experience as a medical technologist. Demonstrated knowledge of use and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments.
Proven effective communications skills, both verbal and written. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively work with others.
