Histo/Medical Technologist 3• Location: Syracuse, NY• Facility Type: Hospital• Job Type: Contract• Shift Schedule: Mon-Fri, 7:30am-4:00pm or 8:30am-5:00pm• Contract Term: 1 year• Rate: $45/hr Requirements: • NYS license/registration or limited permit to practice as a Certified Histological Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technologist• Graduate of accredited histotechnology program• 2 years of histology or clinical laboratory experience Responsibilities: • Perform histology procedures such as special stains, immunohistochemical stains, eye pathology, neuropathology, renal biopsies and muscle biopsies.
• Promptly and accurately record and file pertinent patient information. • Assist in
the preventive maintenance of instrumentation as appropriate, preparation of reagents, ordering of supplies, supply inventory and specimen storage. • Perform appropriate computer data entry for surgical pathology specimens.
• Work with and inform laboratory supervisor and other staff to enhance intra- and interdepartmental communications. • Observe and contribute to laboratory safety at all times. • Assist in the instruction of new employees, residents, and fellows in histologic techniques and surgical pathology gross room procedures as required. • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. • Assist in ensuring histology lab testing is performed in a timely and accurate fashion by
more junior members of the section. • Assist in preparing the histology laboratory for State Department of Health and DNV inspections.
• Participate in quality assurance, Total Quality Management (TQM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (COi) activities. • Perform care consistent with the scope of licensure and in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures. • Work effectively with fellow medical staff and treatment team members. • Any other duties as assigned.
