Background Investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms. Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Qualifications Certification from a nationally recognized agency such as the American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, or Cooper

Clinic for Aerobic Research in the area of exercise science or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of employment. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and AED certification is required.

Knowledge of various strength training machines and cardiovascular fitness equipment. Ability and knowledge to perform minor repairs and maintenance of exercise equipment. Minimum of one year experience conducting graded exercise test on a stationary bike or treadmill with a heart monitor, performing body composition, flexibility and strength backssments. One-year experience counseling otherwise healthy individuals on their results and recommending fitness and lifestyle changes to make healthful

changes. Able to backss and write individualized exercise prescriptions based on individual needs of each patient referred by their medical provider, including but not limited to, permanently wounded active-duty military, orthopedically injured, cardiac rehab and chronic weight management patients.

Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of all programs and to make recommendations for improving or correcting them. Ability to develop and customize presentations and address groups. Ability to speak to individuals/groups regarding fitness and lifestyle modification is required. Ability to maintain records and reports, follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate effectively with others.

Education Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain the following within 60 days of hire: Per Do D MWR Fitness Standards (issued 21 July 2016) this position is responsible for designing individual and/or group exercise programs as well as supervising, coaching, and instructing exercise in or outside of the fitness facility. The three elements below sufficiently qualify an individual to perform their duties as a fitness instructor/personal trainer instructor: a high school diploma or equivalent; fitness instructor, personal trainer or certification from an accredited health/fitness organization; and professional competence in the physical activity program or area.

The two elements below sufficiently qualify an individual to perform their duties as a group fitness instructor: a high school diploma or equivalent; and a primary certification from an accredited health/fitness organization or a certification from a commercial/industry health/fitness organization approved by the Service HQ in the specific physical activity program in which they instruct. Accredited health/fitness organizations are listed per Do D MWR Fitness Standards (issued 21 July 2016) Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain the following within 60 days of hire: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certification Automated External Defibrillator Certification Blood-borne Pathogen Training Navy Basic Fitness Certification Additional information Executive Order 12564 requires a Federal workplace free of illegal drugs.
