JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Basic Function: Intermediate level position responsible for completing a variety of tasks associated with the installation, activation, deactivation, maintenance and inspection of gas meters and regulators.
Responds to routine and emergency requests for gas service and is responsible for repairing leaks on meter sets. Serves as a member of a crew engaged installing and repairing gas mains and service pipeline. Participates in making taps on mains and services and operates heavy equipment. Also responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on customers appliances and
other gas equipment. Protects meters sets from atmospheric corrosion by painting or replacing piping. Provides technical assistance in installing and/or repairing gas main or service lines.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities: Efficiently works a route to complete customer and compliance orders in a timely manner and in accordance with company policies and procedures and operator qualifications procedures. Performs service activation, deactivation, and leak repairs. Performs leak investigation as required following a service activation. Conducts and documents complete investigations of customer premises in response to questionable gas consumption (e. g. high bill complaints, stopped
meters, etc. ) or other issues. Performs basic pipefitting on meter sets (remove meter, install fuel line cut off, replace union).
Installs meter headers. Coordinates and performs basic operation, maintenance, inspection and repair on all above ground valves to include grease, tighten, operate and inspect. Performs meter inspections and paints as needed to maintain compliance with atmospheric corrosion. Performs valve operation and maintenance. Operation of heavy equipment during excavations. Performs underground leak investigation and grading to include: Special surveys Shorted casing surveys Re-checks and re-evaluates Assists in pipe joining methods (Electro fusion and mechanical fusion).
Responds to gas pipeline emergencies. Participates in the on-call rotation for off-shift emergency response. Interacts with customers to answer questions, explain work performed, give instructions for operation of appliances, and promote gas usage. Identifies abnormal operating conditions and takes appropriate actions. Performs miscellaneous inspections, as required. Actively and accurately captures documentation in the Mobile Data Terminal Available to work overtime as necessary to meet business requirements and flexibility in working shifts as required.
Safely operate company assigned vehicles in performance of assignments. Observes all safety requirements and regulatory guidelines to ensure compliance. Performs other job-related duties as required.
