Reviews incident reports, backsses need for further investigation, and determine subsequent action. Investigates incidents involving potential risk. Reviews relevant medical and hospital documents, conducts interviews with involved persons, and backsses present liability and future risk.
Determines appropriate action for current risk situations. May open active claims, adjust hospital bill, or negotiate settlement within given parameters. Recommends planned interventions to prevent future risks, such as recommending policy and procedure changes or providing educational opportunities. Works with the hospital's defense attorneys and hospital's claim service to arrange interviews, obtain
information, write reports, and provide other assistance as required. Codes and enters incidents into computer databases. Monitors and evaluates success of planned interventions by comparing frequency, severity, and trend data.
Serves on various hospital committees, such as the Resuscitation/Code Blue Committee, the Mortality and Morbidity Committee, the P&T Committee, and the Infection Control Committee. Acts as a liaison with Risk Management. Develops and presents reports and makes recommendations. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions,
or employee/patient/visitor injury/accident to Manager.
Available after hours as a Risk Management resource to staff and physicians, as needed. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED Registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science in nursing, or equivalent education or experience. Three (3) years clinical experience in a clinic or hospital setting, KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED Experience in medical malpractice claim management, medical record review, or legal nurse consultant experience.
