Job Description Summary: The Director of Jewish Life is a member of the Fish Interfaith Center staff and reports to the Executive Director of the Fish Interfaith Center. This includes independent leadership of relevant
Holy day services for students on campus as needed and coordination with national Jewish campus ministry organizations on campus. Along with members of the Fish Interfaith Staff, the position serves the spiritual needs of the Chapman University campus.
The Director serves as the Fish Interfaith Center’s liaison with the Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education with regard to programming and other activities, and interacts on behalf of Chapman with the interfaith and Jewish communities in the surrounding community. The position provides spiritual care to meet the needs of Jewish students in particular, as well as all members of the Chapman University community. As a representative of Chapman
University, the individual filling this position promotes interfaith dialogue and understanding both on and off campus.
Responsibilities: Chaplaincy Leadership to Chapman University Provide counseling and spiritual support to Jewish students, staff, and faculty in particular, as well as all members of the Chapman University community in an open and inclusive manner. Promote interfaith and intra-faith dialogue and understanding both on and off campus Cooperate with Fish Interfaith Staff to coordinate vigils, memorials and celebrations for the community to respond to events in our community, nation or world Offer presentations and engage with colleges and departments to promote discussion and provide expertise on Judaism and areas of expertise Participate in campus diversity and inclusion efforts as a member of the Fish Interfaith Center staff Inclusion of students of diverse identities, for example, LGBTQ+ students or Jews of Color.
Jewish Administration and Leadership on Campus Support Jewish students on campus, and coordinate with the Jewish Student Organizations (Ex: Chapman Chabad, Chapman Hillel, etc. ) Independent leadership of Holy day and other services as needed Spiritual leadership to promote programming, guidance, internships and similar opportunities for Jewish students, faculty, and staff and organize programming as appropriate Collaborate with the coordination of special events and procure guest speakers or events as funding is available, coordinating with the Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education, Leatherby Libraries and other appropriate campus departments Support programs for retention and recruitment of Jewish students Liaison with on campus dining and food services to ensure current campus community members’ religious dietary practices are accommodated with appropriate Kosher and Kosher for Passover options at appropriate times Required Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited higher education institution Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and Power Point) Demonstrated ability to independently facilitate Shabbat services Competence in program development, events management and sophisticated verbal and writing skills Self Direction Experience and/or knowledge of spiritual and emotional development of young adults Interfaith Competencies Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation for the value of diverse movements of Judaism, with the ability to mentor and guide the community members from different cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, and identities Excellent communication and public speaking skills Ability to teach Torah Strong analytical skills to provide guidance and counseling to students, with ability to resolve conflict Ability to work with confidential information and provide tact and diplomacy Strong interpersonal skills to work with a diverse individuals at all levels Strong organizational skills to coordinate and collaborate with staff members on campus special events Ability to learn and interpret the Fish Interfaith Center policies and protocols Desired Qualifications: Ph.

Manage a caseload, ensure effective client interaction, and collaborate with the post-conviction relief team. Provide legal counsel by advising clients on their legal rights and drafting relevant legal documents. Handle post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate, expungements, motions to reduce, and early termination of probation. Experience with immigration law is highly
desirable, given interactions with both criminal and immigration practices. Attend motion hearings on behalf of clients and provide post-hearing advice on optimal legal strategies.
Manage open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing on behalf of other criminal attorneys within the firm. Manage court appearances, draft motions, interview clients, and perform legal research. Analyze probable outcomes of cases using knowledge of legal precedents. Efficiently manage the workload of cases, ensuring thorough attention to each matter. Provide legal analysis to clients, determining possible case benefits. Demonstrate criminal defense experience or immigration
