Posting Identification Number Position Overview The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Security Officer Chief for the Madden Mental Health Center located in Hines, Illinois to plan, organize and direct the overall operations for the security department at the facility through subordinate staff to verify the safety and protection of the patients, employees,

visitors, buildings, grounds, and property. Through training and supervision, provides for response to emergency situations including the use of controlled physical force in the restraint of combative patients.

Serves as working supervisor to lower level staff. Investigates incidents outside the purview of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). Serves as a member of the Hospital’s Safety Committee. Monitors the contract for security cameras and uniform cleaning. Attends and actively participates in all mandatory training. Job Responsibilities Plan, organizes and directs the overall operations for the security department at the facility through subordinate staff to verify the safety and protection of the patients, employees, visitors, buildings, grounds, and property.

Serves as working supervisor to lower level staff. Investigates incidents outside the purview of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and monitors the investigation of less serious matters. Serves as a member of the Hospital’s Safety Committee. Monitors the contract for security cameras and uniform cleaning. Attends and actively participates in all mandatory training. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school. Requires two years supervisory experience in safety and protection service or investigative work. Preferred Qualifications Five (5) years of experience working with security requirements and regulations for a public or private organization. Three (3) years of experience directing the daily operations of a Security Department for a public or private organization. Five (5) years of experience working emergency response procedures including fire safety and controls for a public or private organization.

Five (5) years of experience supervising and training staff. Three (3) years of experience formulating security regulations and emergency response plans consistent with regulations and directives. Five (5) years of experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing. Conditions of Employment Requires possession of a valid driver’s license. Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers. Requires the ability to climb stairs and chase runaways. Requires the ability to physically restrain patients as necessary to prevent injury to patient or others.

Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
