Posting Identification Number 33656 Position Overview The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking to hire a highly organized and detail-oriented Licensed Registered Nurse, Corrections Nurse I. This position will be responsible for performing direct nursing care to individuals in a correctional facility. The successful candidate shall demonstrate a valid Illinois License and good oral and
written communication skills, be a self -starter, and be able to carry out nursing assignments pursuant to the direction of medical personnel in a correctional setting.
Job Responsibilities Provides direct patient care and primary nursing care services. Reviews record keeping functions to check physician orders implemented. Maintains security of medical equipment and supplies. Monitors and maintains compliance of safety and sanitation in patient treatment and examination rooms. Reviews medical records and completes health status forms on individuals in custody. Participates in the Quality Assurance Programs through concurrent monitoring of staff compliance with established policies and
procedures. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree in nursing Requires completion of the Corrections Nurse Trainee program or one year of nursing experience (within the last five years) in an acute care setting; preferred experience includes emergency room care, medical/surgical nursing, and/or ambulatory care. Requires licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois. This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.
Preferred Qualifications (In order of Sequence) Prefers at least one (1) year of nursing experience in a correctional setting. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in mental health. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience problem solving in a nursing position. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working on an interdisciplinary team. Prefers at least one (1) year of working experience in a leadership role. Conditions of Employment Requires current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
