Responsibilities : Analyze financial data related to loan requests. Evaluate loan documents to ensure accuracy and completeness. Perform risk backssments on potential loan recipients based on credit rating, borrowing history, and other specific factors risk.
Ensure Secondary Market Guidelines are met, or appropriate loan exception procedures are met. Record loan denials and specific basis for declining application. Run and review compliance software programs to ensure loan is compliant and AUS for loan parameter approval. Provide loan Commitment and Clear to Close to borrower. Monitor and report noncompliance with loan covenants. Review for all borrower memberships or eligibility as it
pertains to SCU's loan policy. Effectively communicate with staff and assist in clearing conditions and stipulations to facilitate timely file completion.
In-depth knowledge of Encompass system. Review appraisal for adherence to guidelines. Review title for proposed loan amount, insured names and address coincide with loan parameters. Utilizes Suffolk and vendor training materials, reference tools and other resources to provide accurate and up-to date loan program/policy information to both external and internal business partners. Responsible for updating appropriate HMDA reportable information pertaining to the individual loan. Maintain member relationships and provide superior member
service. Assist with technical underwriting issues and questions.
Review loan documentation and vendor reports to identify signs of fraudulent activity. Assist supervisor with developing and implementing underwriting policies and procedures. Assist in quality control reviews, audits, and response. Other duties as assigned. Backs up other departmental staff as necessary. Accomplishes the credit union's mission by completing relevant duties as needed when requested by management or other staff members. Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's degree preferred, but will consider an Associate Degree. Three+ years of residential mortgage underwriting experience.
Knowledge of Freddie Mac / Fannie Mae / FHLB underwriting guidelines. Experienced with HMDA rules and regulations. In-depth knowledge of the Encompass LOS. Experience in home equity/heloc underwriting a plus. Registry with NMLS required or must be obtained within 3 months of employment. Applied knowledge of underwriting fundamentals and standard industry practices Understanding of basic financial principles and processes Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and secondary market guidelines Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Ability to multitask and work under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
Demonstrated computer and software skills. Ability to express oneself clearly and articulately both orally and in writing. Skill in gathering, analyzing, and compiling complex financial and statistical data. Skill in reviewing self-employed borrower(s) tax returns.
