As a Computer Scientist, you will: Serve as the Associate Director for Technology (ADT) responsible for providing executive-level leadership and guidance on Center-wide data resources and information technology management in support of scientific and program information and the research and development efforts on new information technologies, architectures and systems
for NCHS. Formulate, plan, develop and conduct original research and make important developmental contributions to the expanding field of information technology and computer science.
Coordinate and participate in Center-wide research projects to investigate new technologies, architectures, and applications that can be used in large, complex national health surveys, data collection and statistical analysis. Serve as NCHS's expert in evaluating business and scientific information systems and planning and designing internal and national health information systems to include developing new and emerging information technology tools, platforms, and methods. Conduct research on both long-term
and short-term projects to improve NCHS's information technology methods, tools and techniques.
Provide technical expertise and authoritative consultation on the selection, development, architecture, design, and use of complex data systems and technologies. Provide complex design and architecture expertise for scientific data management on Center and agency-wide systems. Attend professional meetings, seminars and conferences related to computer systems, systems analysis and design, data processing hardware and software, related statistical analysis processes, confidentiality, and security to keep abreast of advanced and emerging technologies and concepts, research and literature applicable to health surveys, data systems and analysis and programming.

Qualifications As a requirement for Scientific and Professional (ST) positions, applicants must provide evidence of progressively responsible senior experience that is indicative of senior level scientific or professional capability and directly related to the skills and abilities listed in the backssment questionnaire. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 or the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. In addition to meeting the basic qualification requirements, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirements described in the specialized experience statement below.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has provided the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) and/or professional technical qualifications (PTQs) to successfully perform the duties of the position. Applicants must have at least three (3) years of specialized experience in, or closely related to, the duties of the position described in the vacancy announcement. This specialized experience is at a level related to the work of this position that has provided applicants with the particular qualifications to include: experience as a senior advisor providing technical expertise and authoritative consultation on current and emerging information technologies, enterprise architecture, and computer science principles, concepts, methods, and practices; and leading and conducting research and development efforts on new information technologies, informatics, architectures and systems resulting in the development of new concepts, approaches, and techniques to resolve complex information and/or data management issues that enhance the organization's strategic use of information technology to accomplish its mission.

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in applying advanced IT and computer science principles, concepts, methods, standards, and practices to serve as technical expert responsible for overseeing information technology research program. Demonstrated ability to foster collaborative relationships with internal and external partners and facilitates cooperation toward achieving common goals.
