reliable enterprise-technology services to our partner agencies so that they can better serve our mutual customer, the Hoosier taxpayer. IOT will also act as the technology and solution enabler for the State, helping its partner agencies achieve business objectives and innovation.
Salary: This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $70,122. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience. Role Overview: The Systems Administrator Senior will administer the state’s VMware environment, including the support of v Center, NSX, v Realize Operations, Cisco UCS, and VMC Cloud. You will ensure that the state’s NSX firewall and virtual server infrastructure
remain healthy, properly configured, and maintained by monitoring the systems.
You will perform troubleshooting as needed. This position will also need to properly utilize vendor contacts, perform routine maintenance, and practice proper resource allocation to keep the state’s virtual environment highly available and performing to the expected standards. The position will also help in planning future growth and be able to identify and prove new technologies for adoption by the state. Key outcomes for this role include: Provide virtualization technical administration, support of infrastructure, and other duties as necessary to maintain an enterprise-class data center environment.
Support technologies such as VMware v Center, ESXi, VXRail, NSX, and Cisco UCS. Maintain and share a knowledge of firewall environments and security controls is necessary. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: Responsible for activities related to systems administration. Assign staff to various projects, direct their activities, and evaluate their work. Ensure long-term systems operations and administration requirements, which may include overall systems planning. Responsible for installation, maintenance, configuration, and integrity of computer software and its components.
Implement operating system enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system. Design, develop, modify, and maintain complex system software using releases and utilities. Responsible for testing, debugging, and documentation of system software upgrades and new releases which may include some program design and coding. Responsible for software applications dealing with the overall operating system which may include sophisticated file maintenance routines, telecommunications networks, and computer accounting. May be responsible for quality assurance review of system software.
Evaluate new and existing software products. Confer with department management to assist in planning, organizing, and controlling activities of assigned area. May perform as team lead or project manager in assigned area. May oversee multiple projects or project phases. Defines system software and hardware requirements. What You'll Need for Success: You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: Demonstrated knowledge of VMware Center with a minimum of 3 years of experience. Thorough knowledge of information technology systems including software, hardware, and their impact on the various components. Thorough knowledge of policies, standards, procedures, and techniques. Thorough knowledge of information technology equipment, operation, and capabilities. Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others.
Ability to develop and execute system backup and recovery procedures and plans. Ability to work with other information technology support staff to develop capacity planning. Thorough knowledge of installation, maintenance, and configuration of system software and system operating systems. Thorough knowledge of the use of tools and utilities to perform the system work. Thorough knowledge of designing, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting system software components. Thorough knowledge of performance and tuning techniques. Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
