This role is responsible for architecting, planning, implementing, and maintaining both on-premises and cloud-based systems that directly impact the day-to-day computing environment for faculty, staff, and students.
As part of the Digital Services Group the incumbent is responsible for maintaining a stable and secure computing delivery platform as well as seeking new ways to modernize and innovate for specific needs of the Humanities Division. This position is hybrid with a possibility of fully remote. The Sr. Systems Engineer is responsible for managing tasks in all phases of
the IT Service Management lifecycle, including architecting and planning the deployment of moderately complex to highly interconnected compute, storage, and networked systems, ensuring stability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
The incumbent performs or oversees a broad range of systems engineering tasks, including systems design, configuration, server upgrades, updates, migrations, installation of software and hardware including firmware, research of technical solutions, and installation of third-party vendor applications. The incumbent also serves as technical lead on operations and projects for current and future humanities computing infrastructures, and drives disaster
recovery/business continuity planning. Additional responsibilities include: creating and maintaining architecture documentation for all systems and software; proposing solutions for complex or unique operational needs; creating project plans with appropriate analysis of technical issues; servings as a technical consultant to faculty, staff and students regarding Linux server or research computing issues and solutions; and serving as a technical liaison for Hum Tech to central IT and other organizations on campus.
