Job Summary This is a professional (working) level position responsible for maintaining the operation of select WAN related network services according to higher education system policies and procedures. The position coordinates and implements network software and hardware upgrades of varying complexity. The
position troubleshoots and resolves WAN/Optical performance, connectivity, and related network problems of varying complexity. Responsibilities 1. Responds to network service interruptions.
2. Installs new network devices. 3. Configures routers and switches. 4. Manages optical networking equipment. 5. Works with vendors to obtain quotes and procure parts, supplies and equipment. 6. Schedules network maintenance. 7. Troubleshoots the configuration, reconfiguration, and installation of networking equipment. 8. Monitors network utilization trends, gathers statistics, and analyzes data for proactive network capacity planning. 9. Provides consultation, technical expertise, information and
support to central office staff, USG institutions and other customers.
10. Designs, implements, and monitors enterprise data, voice, optical, and wireless networks. 11. Works as a member of a 24 hour on-call rotation for network emergencies and outages. 12. Performs related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications · Baccalaureate degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. · Over three years of related experience required. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities 1. Knowledge of project management principles. 2. Knowledge of networking protocols. 3. Knowledge of binary mathematics. 4. Knowledge of optical networking technologies.
5. Knowledge of routing protocols and network media. 6. Knowledge of Board of Regents policies and procedures. 7. Skill in directing projects and delegating responsibilities. 8. Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents. 9. Skill in decision making and problem solving. 10. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public. 11. Skill in oral and written communication. 12. Ability to respond diplomatically to sensitive and critical issues. 13. Ability to effectively multi-task.
