may be the perfect fit for you! The purpose of our Foster Program Coordinator is to assist with the foster program and all animals that are in foster homes. This individual works in conjunction with the other Foster Program Manager and HSHC staff members to identify animals needing foster care and places these animals into appropriate homes.
This individual is also responsible for assisting with the day-to -day care of foster animals. This role serves as a liaison to the Senior Medical Manager, foster families, and medical staff. The Foster Coordinators ensures immediate medical needs are addressed in a timely manner and communicating those concerns to the Senior Medical Manager. The
Foster Program Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of our Foster Program in collaboration with the Foster Program Manager including, but not limited to: Serving as the shelter’s liaison to our foster parents, volunteers, and staff as the point of contact for general questions, concerns and escalations.
Managing foster relationships and ensuring all our managers are engaged and aware of any concerns. Recruiting new foster homes and reviewing all foster applications daily. Assist the Foster Program Manager in establishing foster protocols, orientation schedule & assigning foster families with animals that fit their home environment. Facilitating foster animals to come back to the
shelter for medical treatment, vaccinations, exams, in partnership with the medical team.
Working with our supervisors, leads, and behavior department to ensure animals that are in need of foster homes are placed appropriately and in a timely manner. Developing and coordinating foster retention and recognition programs/initiatives Identifying “lead fosters” to fulfill special foster job assignments. Managing our Foster Database which includes processing applications, adding new fosters to the database, and escalating any foster applicant concerns to the Senior Medical Manager and the Director of Operations as soon as possible. Generating foster related reports and managing Pet Point Database system for all foster animals.
Ensuring all fosters are trained to fulfill their assignments and are able to give the exceptional care needed for HSHC animals. Ensuring all foster needs are met, managed, and concerns addressed immediately. Demonstrate affection for animals and concern for their welfare. Scheduling appointments in a timely manner with our veterinarian partners to ensure medical treatment is followed up on. Administer booster vaccinations when appropriate Enter foster animal medications, vet visits, and temperament concerns into the Pet Point system.

As part of the Medical Coordinator team, you are responsible of the animal intake process and ensuring animals are medically processed, temperament tested, and moved onto the next step in our workflow process in a timely manner—the goal being that adoptable animals are going onto the adoption floor as soon as possible.
This individual is also responsible for following all established treatment plans for sick animals according to our medical protocols. Some animals may require collaboration with our attending/relief veterinarian to determine a treatment plan for emergency care, unique health issues, and/or require the care of a specialist/other DVM. These
determinations will be made by the Senior Medical Manager and/or the DVM. The Medical Coordinators will also be responsible for providing support in the surgery suite as needed and directed by the Surgical Lead and or DVM.
Duties & Responsibilities The Medical Coordinators are responsible for coordinating the daily functions of our medical department’s inner workings of the functions of including, but not limited to: The Medical Coordinator must physically hold and restrain pets that may struggle, scratch, or try to bite. This requires the emotional ability to remain calm and compassionate with animals that are reacting to fear and/or pain and the physical strength, dexterity, and reflexes
to keep the pet, themselves, and other doctors or staff safe.
This individual must be able to view physical symptoms or medical problems, read medical instruments, and follow handwritten instructions. Medical Coordinators must be able to respond and quickly react to frequent auditory signals, warnings, or communication from other staff, animals, or medical equipment. Conduct routine exams, tests, vaccines, and treatments, and providing proper dosages for animals that are sick in HSHC’s care. Execute both oral and written communication effectively with the staff and managers as it pertains to making treatment suggestions and facilitating extended treatments.
Monitor general health of animal population daily. Perform accurate data entry from hard copies to animal tracking system (Pet Point) Perform humane euthanasia when approved by the medical, operations managers, or President/CEO. Work closely with foster department and provide all immediate foster animal and foster parent needs when appropriate. Conduct medical and behavioral counsels. Provide medical care to animals such as giving SQ fluids, daily medications, and taking vital signs, as well as following all directions given by the attending veterinarian. Process the intake of new animals with HSHC protocols in preparation for adoption which include but not limited to: drawing blood, administering vaccines, microchipping and medicating animals with preventatives.
Open, turn over and clean operating rooms, as well as clean instruments and wrap packs. Perform patient backssments, anesthesia, procedures, and treatment. Must be able to work energetically for the entire assigned shift, oftentimes exceeding 9 – 10 hours per day. Physical exertion will include repetitive standing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, and lifting. Must be able to grasp, hold, and manipulate objects varying from small and fine to large and heavy with both hands.
On occasion, Medical Coordinators are to participate in surgical procedures from induction to recovery by prepping patients for surgery, including shaving, scrubbing and positioning, assist with intubation and radiographs. Perform rotation for on call emergency basis (after hours, weekends, and holidays). Performs additional duties as assigned. Animal handling experience in a clinic setting is required. Be knowledgeable about shelter related, contagious illnesses with an understanding of how to 1) identify such conditions, 2) establish the appropriate handling or quarantine plan, and 3) implement the appropriate medical treatment plan. Be highly proficient using a computer including experience using Microsoft Office, email, and entering/searching for information in data management software such as Pet Point, Excel, or other equivalent database. The Cattery staff will provide exceptional care to all shelter animals, in regards to cleanliness, handling, and ensuring proper care.
This role serves as a liaison to all staff to ensure staff and volunteers work directly with the animals to provide enrichment, identify concerns behavioral or medical and communicate with proper manager. Duties & Responsibilities Cattery Staff is responsible for coordinating the daily activities including, but not limited to Daily walk through of the cattery areas checking
each animal individually for any abnormal activity such as vomiting, diarrhea, or blood in the cage or run. Reports all abnormal activity to supervisors immediately.
(Ensure to place a note in the medical binders). Feeds and waters animals according to schedules and protocols. Cleans and disinfects all food and water bowls. Picks up soiled bedding and moves it to laundry area. Places clean bedding in run with animals. Recognizes emergency situations, enlisting the aid of supervisors or veterinarians. Cleans and maintains cattery area of facility, in such a manner as to provide an odor free and low stress environment for the animals. Administers medications to those animals that require
medications when medical staff needs assistance. Handles all animals accordingly, while recognizing animals that need behavior modification.
Cleans and disinfects cages, runs and yards as needed using hoses and spray bottles of disinfectant. Restraint of animals as needed. Maintains all HSHC equipment. Provides friendly and professional interactions with clients and animals while doing showings for potential adoptions. Ensures customer satisfaction. Safely move cats between carriers and kitty cages. Assist kennel staff with performing cat tests. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
