General Summary of Duties: Operates mammography equipment to make clinically diagnostic films as directed by physicians, according to established standards and practices of the ACR and Mammography Quality Standards Act.
Performs a variety of diagnostic procedures that require independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Performs equipment warm-up, calibration, safety checks, and daily Quality Control. Reports
any equipment malfunctions to manager. May assist/perform elementary repair of equipment. Assists in the planning and organization of daily work schedule. Identifies, interviews, and screens patients for a complete mammography history.
Ensures accuracy of exams by checking physician orders. Assists patients to work area. May transport and transfer patients onto exam/treatment table. Explains procedure to patient, and or family members. Positions, arranges, attaches or adjusts immobilization and support devices, e. pression paddle, biopsy paddle, etc. to obtain precise positions, prevent patient from moving and lessen discomfort Performs clinically excellent exam as determined by radiologist.
Responsible for department records. Accurately and promptly documents in departmental records (film, file, and computer ) patient name, exam date, film markers, clinical history, complaints, allergies, etc.
May prepare file for processing to radiologist. Collects statistics as directed. Responsible for the recording of processor Quality Control for American College of Radiology and MQSA regulations. This includes graph plotting and trouble shooting comments. Communicates reactions, complications, changes in condition etc. to radiologist, physician. Observes sterile technique. Assists in biopsy procedures as required. Identifies and hands requested instruments/supplies to radiologist, or other medical practitioner, during treatment/examination of patient.
Provides self-care instruction to both patient and family. Communicates appropriate medical information and information on community resources available, as necessary. Obtains feedback from patient and family regarding understanding of self care and modifies instruction accordingly. Operates hospital information system. Performs elementary maintenance on computer equipment, such as CRT’s and printers, etc. Develops films or produces film copies in dark room. Performs elementary maintenance on film processor.
May hang films on viewer for interpretation. Assists in care and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and supplies. Keeps work area neat and clean, maintains proper inventory and supply levels. Acts as a resource person providing patient care and diagnostic testing technique information, and training to other staff technologists. Assists in the teaching of student technologists and non-professional personnel in the department. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications: EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION: Current licensure by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety.
Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiology. Mammography certification or eligibility by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
