Posting Identification Number Position Overview The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Security Officer for the Alton Mental Health Center located in Alton, Illinois to provide security to all areas of the Center on an assigned shift. Responds to disturbance calls, conducts fire drills and responds to fire alarms. Searches for missing patients and

reports unsafe and hazardous conditions. Responds to other types of emergencies.

Secures patients around the hospital and in the community. Assists with investigations of alleged events. Gathers witness statements and evidence. Prepares written reports for the Office of Inspector General (OIG). Escorts and transports patients to different locations. Verifies the safety of patients and staff. Job Responsibilities Provides security to all areas of the Alton Mental Health Center on an assigned shift. Responds to disturbance calls and breaks-up disturbances caused by patients, visitors, or staff. Assists law enforcement and other state investigative agency’s/entities/bodies with investigations of alleged events.

Escorts and transports patients to different locations of the hospital and in the community. Conducts regularly scheduled emergency drills (e. g. fire, tornado, bomb). Participates in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training for the non-violent physical control of combative patients. As part of the Intake assignment, verifies the safety of patients and staff. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.

Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs. Conditions of Employment Requires the ability to become OIG rule 50.3 certified within 90 days of employment. Requires the ability to climb stairs, chase runaways and physically restrain patients as necessary to prevent injury to patient or others. Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays. Requires the ability to travel.

Requires a valid driver’s license. Requires the ability obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate. Requires the ability to pass CPI (Crisis Prevention and Intervention) training. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
