Join our Facilities team as a Facilities Maintenance Specialist. The Facilities Maintenance Specialist focus on both personal and food Safety.
This role is responsible for all repairs and/or oversight of repairs and preventive maintenance performed on or at Second Harvest Heartland’s facilities, to include all operations/facilities related equipment/assets in the organization as well as carry out responsibilities in accordance with company policies and procedures. The Facilities Maintenance Specialist assist in
the maintenance of our facilities and related contents utilizing the requisites; AIB, USDA, FDA, and OSHA standards, as well as those of state and local health departments and provide hands on work in all facets of facility maintenance & repair.
Starting Pay Range: $27 - $30 USD hourly / Dependent on Qualifications and Experience. Work Schedule: On-site / full time / 40 hours per week Location: Brooklyn Park, MN Duties and Responsibilities: To keep Safety a primary focus. Your safety as well as that of co-workers, volunteers, vendors, and visitors. Safety as it pertains to the food we handle, store, and distribute. Maintain weekly/monthly facility checklists. To include, but not be limited
to, items on facility checklists. Work with the Facilities Manager to ensure timely scheduled preventive maintenance, safety inspections and repairs of our Material Handling Equipment, (MHE), and physical plants.
Facility security, fire suppression and associated alarm, warning & emergency lighting systems. Floors and walls, interior, and exterior as well as ceilings and roofing. All man doors, dock doors, dock levelers, high speed doors, etc. including hardware & closers. Pallet racking, gorilla racking, maintenance equipment and chemical/flammables storage. All MHE checklists being filled out as well as those of our scrubbers, scissors lifts, etc.
Inspection of rooftops including HVAC units, cooler/freezer units, gutter heaters & water spigots. Interior and exterior lighting and signage. Grounds maintenance to include landscaping, mowing, sprinkler system, pavement & snow removal. Ensure timely removal of garbage, organic waste, recycling, etc. Work with our pest control vendor to eliminate harborage, access, food sources, etc. Respond to Service Desk tickets that have been assigned to you in a timely fashion. Work with the Facilities Manager to ensure everyday preparedness for audits; (AIB, OSHA, MDA.). Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of our facilities.
Focus on punctuality and effective communication Lead by example Must Have: All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered. Experience in facilities maintenance or comparable experience in carpentry, sheetrock repair, painting, intermediate to advanced mechanical aptitude along with a basic understanding of plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems. Strong analytical skills as it pertains to facilities related maintenance and repairs. Ability to take direction and focus on the task at hand.
Strong organizational skills and an eye for cleanliness. Ability to learn cardboard and garbage compactor procedures, scissors lift and scrubber operation, as well as become qualified on all material handling equipment. Ability to adapt to varied work requirements; flexibility; capacity to work cooperatively with other staff and volunteers. Ability to communicate effectively in both speak and write English. Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision. High school education or equivalent. Familiarity and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
