Job Summary Georgia Power's Distribution GIS application (Dist GIS) supplies data to a host of critical applications. This position will serve on the GIS support team as a technical contact and subject-matter-expert for Dist GIS and related software.
This position is responsible for resolving GIS issues and ensuring that our integrated enterprise systems are performing optimally. This role provides spatial data analytics and reporting to various business leaders, in addition to coordinating strategic efforts to incorporate new technologies and solutions across the GIS enterprise. The successful
candidate must have demonstrated the ability to perform at a high level with minimum supervision. Some emergency after-hours and weekend work will be required. Job Responsibilities & Expectations Provide technical support and assistance to our statewide Dist GIS user community Champion our Southern Company Leading as a System (Laa S) initiative to standardized and transition to Esri's Utility Network data model Support the GIS interfaces to our Outage Management System (TCMS/NMS), Map Viewers (Dist View & GISWeb), Planning Tool (CYME), Arc GIS Enterprise Portal, Enterprise Asset Management (MAXIMO), and mobile mapping solutions Collaborate with the Southern Company Technology Organization (TO),
GIS software vendors, and peer utilities to define functional requirements and advocate for enhancements based on end-user input Direct and manage application testing, performance benchmarking, and deployment efforts for software upgrades Configure and implement specific business unit rules and process workflows Perform data analytics and reporting functions to support Property Accounting, Marketing, Metering, Reliability, Distribution Operations, and others Prepare maps, shapefiles, and geodatabases to support Asset Management inspection programs, Cable Locating, Forestry, Lighting Services, and other business units Safeguard the integrity of our enterprise geodatabase, distribution facility data, asset records, and network data model Administer the publication of Dist GIS data via server and cloud-centric solutions Develop geoprocessing models and scripts to automate reoccurring tasks Design, deploy, and support mobile and web enabled GIS solutions Advise on the creation of training manuals and self-help documentation Job Requirements Education BS in Computer Science, MIS, GIS, or Engineering related field is preferred Experience Minimum 2 years working with Esri's Arc GIS 10.
