for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer III to join our award-winning team and provide technical support in our Support Services section. In this role, you will: Provide geotechnical support services through value management and product evaluation, research and information dissemination, development and maintenance of geotechnical and geologic standards, and technical support.

Participate in value management teams to evaluate geotechnical aspects of projects and review value engineering proposals and reports. Evaluate geotechnical products to determine approval status and investigate, promote, and implement new products, processes, and techniques through vendor contacts, product investigation,

and pilot projects. Review geotechnical software to backss the effectiveness and benefits to the unit and make recommendations for implementation and training.

Participate in research advisory panels and oversight committees. Attend geotechnical conferences, technical meetings, and engineering professional organizations to exchange ideas and propose innovative ideas from research results. Develop and maintain geotechnical policies, manuals and standards for the Unit that include standard specifications and special provisions, standard details and drawings, and standard forms and spreadsheets. Prepare design examples and in some cases, design projects with unique or difficult geotechnical

aspects. Communicate with other state and federal agencies, DOTs, universities, and industry trade groups to transfer knowledge to other engineers in the Unit.

Support, consult, and advise staff within NCDOT and the Unit regarding geotechnical issues and applications. Be informed, understand, and learn about current industry challenges and available geotechnical solutions. What You Bring Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate technical information verbally and in written forms. Knowledge of geotechnical engineering and engineering geology relating to highway design and construction. Experience analyzing unstructured data and extracting information for potential use in geotechnical applications.

Experience understanding and researching complex issues to recommend solutions to geotechnical problems. Experience critically reviewing technical products, reports, and research to make recommendations for future implementation actions. A Driver's License and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Notes Overnight travel may be required. We may require you to be registered as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in engineering, and 4+ years of relevant experience; or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

More about the NCDOT Geotechnical Team We provide the geologic, geotechnical, and geoenvironmental engineering aspects of planning, design, construction, and maintenance of NC highways. Our teams collect and analyze subsurface information and provide geotechnical engineering designs and recommendations for roadway slopes, embankments, and subgrades, and foundations of roadways and structures to ensure stability and cost-effective construction. We assist in the construction and maintenance of roadways and structures and investigate and develop remediation plans for geotechnical or geoenvironmental problems.

We investigate known and potentially contaminated properties to identify the presence and provide removal instructions for hazardous material and underground storage tanks. Our team reviews geotechnical designs and construction submittals from private engineering firms and contractors We engage in new product evaluations before products are used in construction.
