The Information Technology Services Directorate (ITSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is responsible for providing information technology services that enable ORNL staff to be productively engaged in the business of world-class research and development. ITSD is responsible for a broad range

of IT services including: business systems operations, network and telecommunications, R&D systems engineering, customer service, applications development, cyber security, project management, planning and architecture.

We are seeking a Windows Systems Management Engineer to help manage 14K+ client and server systems in a highly dynamic research community. Strong leadership, excellent communication, and deep technical skills are essential for this position. Major Duties/Responsibilities: Engineer solutions to improve productivity, flexibility, and security for computing resources. Optimize automated solutions for deployment of applications, operating systems updates, third party updates,

and configuration changes. Assist with the highest level of troubleshooting as needed, working with manufacturers, vendors, support staff, and customers.

Create and maintain internal operating procedures and end user documentation. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a computer, engineering, or science-related field and five (5) years of relevant experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Effective written and verbal communication skills. 5+ years supporting Windows systems and 2+ years managing Windows systems. Scripting experience using Power Shell. Experience troubleshooting all versions and variations of Windows, in their installation, configuration, management and operations. Group Policy management experience. The ability to work occasional extended and weekend hours to resolve urgent problems or meet critical milestones is required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a science or technology environment.

Experience applying configuration/hardening guidelines (DISA, CIS, etc. ). Understanding of operating system deployment. A broad familiarity of management solutions for power management, AV, health monitoring, and cyber security. Understanding of a Microsoft SCCM infrastructure to maintain and manage Windows systems.
