overseeing the day-to-day work and engineering development for new interior and exterior injection molded components and assemblies. This individual will have responsibility for reviewing and providing feedback on engineering work of assigned engineering team, coaching and mentoring their team, and tracking resource utilization to ensure adequate engineering resources are assigned to projects.
In addition to a strong working understanding of plastics design engineering principles, this role requires a high level of organizational and planning proficiency to review incoming work requests from many different internal and external customers to establish resource plans, assign, track and
report on progress of design engineering activities. Both jobs require working in an office environment (not hybrid or remote) at Con Met's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Washington.
Non-local candidates must be open to relocation (relocation assistance available. Key Duties Leads, directs and manages the work of design engineering resources including design engineers and designers, CAE analysts, dimensional engineers, and outside contract design resources. Directs the engineering design, development, test planning and analysis of interior and exterior plastics (parts and systems) based on outlined scope of work and OEM specifications. Lead and manage the day-to-day activities
to ensure completion of project deliverables related but not limited to, 3D Modeling, 2D Drawing, structural analysis, stress analysis, prototype builds and testing validation.
Review and provide feedback on engineering work completed by team such as CAD, drawings, and analysis. Lead and participate in engineering design reviews for interior and exterior plastic components and systems. Support the Director of Design Engineering, Program Managers, Design Leads, and Application Engineering to establish resource plans and forecasting needs for new programs. Conducts, documents, reviews and oversees all design activities via APQP processes. Coordinate, onboard, and manage internal and outside design resources as needed based on program and forecasting needs.
Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required. Minimum 7-10 years’ experience required in engineering or manufacturing process environment required. Plastics design and manufacturing experience related to automotive/trucking required. Interior and exterior trim systems design and development experience required. Experience managing and leading complex projects. Working knowledge of at least 1 of the following CAD systems (NX, Catia V5, Creo).
Working knowledge of GD&T and experience creating and releasing 2D engineering drawings. Experience using PLM software such as Teamcenter/Enovia/Windchill. Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of APQP processes. Experience working with styling studios, managing tier 2 suppliers, and tool shops. History of progressively increasing responsibility roles within engineering. Working knowledge of project and program management tools. Compensation & Benefits New hires generally start between $112,756 - $161,000. The full salary range for the position, across all geographies is $112,756 - $193,296 per year. The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience. Targeted annual bonus is based on company performance to objectives during the fiscal plan year which runs from October 1 – September 30.
