The role of a Principal Engineer in Information Security is a leadership position responsible for setting the Global strategic direction, design, and architecture of Costco's cybersecurity program.
This role involves strategic planning, technical leadership, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the network infrastructure aligns with business goals. engineers and partners; providing technical guidance, sharing best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
Represents, advises, and communicates the Global Information Security Strategy and roadmaps across the IT Division; ensuring alignment and collaboration across the division. Acts as the CISO/Deputy CISO's strategic advisor and subject matter expert on major initiatives and projects. Leads the design, planning, and implementation of Costco's Global cybersecurity program. Evaluates and recommends technologies, hardware, and software solutions to address emerging technology and security frameworks. Implements security solutions to support the cybersecurity vision and strategy.
Documents process, workflows, and tool implementations via technical documents. Configures and maintains security controls and provides standard operating procedures and improved metrics and operational support. Leverages security services to enhance preventive, detective, and response capabilities. Establishes and enforces network security policies and procedures to safeguard against cybersecurity threats and ensure compliance with regulations. Leads " Security by Design" initiatives for the enterprise; to include security engagement across the full spectrum of the SDLC.
Ability to communicate organizational, operational and tactical risk at the appropriate level; identify solutions to reduce risk. Assists in negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships to ensure cost-effectiveness and service quality. REQUIRED 10+ years' extensive cybersecurity architecture and engineering experience. 5+ years' experience in a leadership role (formal or informal). Deep understanding of enterprise design, security operations, security engineering, and Dev Sec Ops. Demonstrated ability to take ownership and responsibility of critical issues and conclude them to resolution.
Advanced knowledge of network security and modern next generation firewall platforms. Experience with one or more of the following: Python, Ansible, Terraform. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Proven experience in product delivery. Familiarity with compliance requirements such as SOX, PCI DSS, SWIFT, and HIPAA Recommended Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline.
