The Transportation Facilities Group (TFG) leads and design projects that supports local and regional growth initiatives through small and large transportation projects. Our goal is to team with our agency clients and to develop solutions to the complex challenge of advancing transportation throughout the region.
TFG has over 60 engineers and architects throughout the Northeast Region, with major design hubs located in New York City, Boston, St Louis and San Francisco. The position offers varied projects in the transportation fi eld within the NY Metro Region. The Structural Engineer position will work under the supervision of a senior
structural engineer and includes designs in rail and bus stations, pre-k thru higher education projects, airports, transportation hubs, rail systems, as well a wide array of projects that lead and support the engineering divisions.
Clients include NYCT, MTA Bus, LIRR, MNR, PANY&NJ, Amtrak, NJ Transit, NYC SCA, contractors, and local utilities. The scale of work varies from small to very large projects and offers the candidate the ability to continually switch between multiple project types on any given day, and offers tremendous exposure to varied disciplines within the New York Office. Your Impact Development of structural design, details and drawings, including calculations for new
and renovation work Developing drawings in REVIT (BIM), Auto CAD, and Micro Station Utilizing Microsoft Excel and Mathcad Prime to develop of structural calculations Knowledge in structural analysis software such as STAAD.
Pro, RAM Structural System, ETABS, SAFE and SAP2000 Field inspection of structural systems of buildings Coordinating with various engineering disciplines as well as with architects Working within a paperless (or limited-use) office environment and remote working when required Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Typical projects types include: Transportation segments include rail, bus, subway, airports and marine ports, Facility building types include administration buildings, tolling structures, parking structures, bus, rail and subway stations including associated maintenance facilities, ancillary buildings, vent buildings, etc. Pre-K through higher education school buildings Resiliency related studies and design Parks and recreation centers Growth Opportunities include: Develop into the senior structural engineer level Assist on the development of the proposals Work on design-build projects including direct interaction with clients Work on high profile type projects including direct interaction with clients Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering.
3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural design experience in transportation projects. Engineer in Training Certification and ability to obtain PE license within 1 year. Proficient in the development of structural engineering calculations, structural analysis models, details and contract drawings.
Knowledgeable in state and city building codes, as well as industry standard specifications (IBC, ACI 318, AISC 360, etc. ) Understanding of construction documents Knowledgeable in STAAD. Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RAM Structural System, Mathcad, Excel or similar structural design software Proficiency of Auto CAD; knowledgeable in Micro Station and REVIT (or the ability to quickly learn) Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in adynamic work environment. Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies. Excellent communication and writing skills and well organized Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Preferred Qualifications: Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering. Compensation: Expected Salary (all locations): $71,700 - $122,980 WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s interaction or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
