Platform Engineers translate high level platform design into low level technical design and are responsible for implementing, administering, supporting and patching their corresponding platforms. Platform Engineers work closely with Solution Architects to enable the capabilities defined on roadmaps and blueprints supporting platform programs and initiatives. Platform Engineers are well versed
in modern infrastructure platforms, industry/technology best practices and actively work on improving the reliability and scalability of infrastructure.
The SRE and Operations Platform Engineer responsibilities include deployment, maintenance, and support for automation platforms. The Platform Engineer manages development, test, staging, and demo environments (platform deployment, upgrades, patching), as well as Costco's production environment while leveraging as much automation as possible. The successful candidate will be responsible for continually advancing the technology in a collaborative and creative agile environment using many of the latest technologies and industry best practices and finding better and more efficient ways of delivering solutions that meet business objectives.

ROLE Collaborates with delivery pods and Architects to improve production deployments, platform operations, and environment stability. backsses technical components, translates high level design into low level technical design and executes updates based on SLAs. Manages the platform on an ongoing basis while performing typical run functions like monitoring, patching and support.
Leads and conducts code reviews, design reviews, testing, and debugging activities at the application level. Conducts regular platform checkups and reports inefficiencies to relevant business and technology stakeholders. Interfaces with infrastructure and/or provisioning groups to stand up the platform. Develops and instruments monitoring dashboards depicting platform health and performance. Develops and builds scalable and generalized frameworks to support the integration of third-party APIs. Performs analysis on existing platform components to identify improvements in software development processes.
Develops and implements Platform as a Service (Paa S) Solutions. Remediates platform issues and bottlenecks impacting software development activities. Supports the creation of documentation and artifacts used to describe the mechanisms used for deployment, monitoring and maintenance. Remediates platform issues and bottlenecks impacting software development activities. Collaborates with Architects and technology team members to define development tasks and activities within technical user stories to support the implementation of Infrastructure as a code solution.
Performs coding tests to validate hardware design correctness, and creates software regression tests to ensure its reliability. Delivers against business objectives by effectively managing and partnering with technology vendors. Conducts research and makes recommendations on standards, products, and services. Tests diagnostics including automated regression testing. Supports the development and execution of integration testing plans as needed. Supports the authoring and execution of test cases related to support the implementation of platform development work. Maintains the catalog of services for the platform in collaboration with the Architects.
Ensures application and infrastructure architectural solutions are stable, secure, and compliant with company standards and practices as well as regulatory requirements. Implements and maintains system configurations and baselines to support secure application development software control best practices and standards. Implements service monitoring across all platforms to ensure continuous availability and operational continuity of critical systems. Evaluates and documents all operating systems according to required standards.
Participates in Dev Ops, Agile, and continuous integration frameworks. Provides operational support for the CI/CD platform stack. Supports incident response, request fulfillment, end user support, patching, upgrades, and monitoring. Develops and operates the automated deployment of applications, including deployment and release management. Provides development support for application teams, including mentoring and code review. Works with suppliers, business, application development teams, and other technical teams to meet the needs of the project. Configures and maintains Azure cloud and on-premise infrastructure to ensure availability, performance, scalability and security of development, testing and production environments, relying on automated scripts and configuration management tools.
Creates and manages Infrastructure as Code (Ia C). Maintains, extends, and builds automated CI and CD pipelines for platform deployments. Delivers project-based work to agreed target dates and notifies project manager and engineer of any roadblocks. Provides fast and thoughtful issue resolution by executing quick fixes or proactively identifying and solving problems related to builds in production environments.
Seeks opportunities to learn, automate, document, share, educate, and improve processes where appropriate. Understands and adheres to Costco's project methodology and framework, Costco's Mission Statement and Code of Ethics. Follows corporate security standards and best practices, including the promotion of awareness on current threats. REQUIRED 2+ years' administering enterprise applications. Experience with CI/CD, Ia C, Configuration Management and Source Control tooling (Puppet Enterprise, Azure Dev Ops, Git Hub Enterprise, Terraform Enterprise, Artifactory, Jenkins, Sonar Qube, and IBM Urban Code Deploy).
Professional experience administering Unix and Windows Operating systems. Solid understanding of development/coding methodologies. Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to logically think through problem situations. Willing to learn third party applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Solid understanding of application architecture, network technologies, application security, and infrastructure architecture. Must have high integrity, accountability, a positive attitude, and be willing to do what it takes to make the team successful.
Team player, good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Creative, likes challenges. Able to support off-hours work as required, including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis. Recommended Experience provisioning and managing cloud services (Azure). Experience with Ia C (Terraform). Microsoft Azure certification(s) preferred. Experience deploying enterprise cloud technologies. Experience with enterprise infrastructure and software systems. Knowledge of Agile Methodologies (scrum, kanban).
