respect, collaboration, trust, and delivery. They are what we believe, what customers expect, and how we deliver. Position Summary: Bechtel is seeking a Senior Control System Engineer to join the Control System department within the Manufacturing and Technology Business Unit (M&T).
The prime roles and responsibilities include: Serves as supervisor or area lead on assigned project to develop an area from conceptual phase to EPC phase. Maintains contact with client representatives as directed, with suppliers, appropriate field personnel, Project Engineers, and Engineering disciplines to ensure the coordination of the design within the project or assignment and compliance with Bechtel/client
requirements. Attends client meetings as the Lead Control System Engineer and presents project control system design, status, and schedule.
Plans and conducts independent work within M&T to support all business lines (Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, and Data Center) requiring judgment in evaluation, selection, application, and adaption of design on a project. Knows applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices and quality standards for a global business unit. Job Dimensions: A. Supervision Received Receives operational supervision and technical guidance from a Project Engineering Manager, Area Project Engineer, or Chief Engineer.
B. Supervision Exercised Provides operational direction and technical guidance to subordinate engineer and designer personnel as directed. C. Contacts Establishes and maintains communication with design and engineering supervisors in charge of related disciplines and with administrative personnel within the group or project. Consults with suppliers, module yards, design and construction subcontractors, technical specialists, other disciplines/functions and client representatives as directed to provide and receive technical information and to ensure the coordination of the work within the project or assignment and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements.
Responsibilities: Ensures design deliverables are in accordance with applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices, project specifications, and quality standards for a global business unit Applies broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices to project engineering in the preparation of designs and deliverables. Accountable for coordination of engineering activities, in accordance with the established technical quality standards, cost, and schedule. Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.
Makes decisions concerning problems within the discipline on the project. Represents the discipline on the project and with the client as directed to resolve technical questions. Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators). Plans develops, coordinates, and reviews technical work of discipline engineers, specialists, designers and drafters. Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
Coordinates clear scope definition with the client and home office engineering teams ensuring design documents reflect project scope definition. Manages scope change and coordination of changes with client and home office engineering teams Prepare Control Systems Engineering conceptual design, design criteria, and other control system deliverables Review and approve technical reports, studies, design documentation, specifications, material/service requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and calculations using engineering software, as applicable, for control systems equipment/instrumentation.
Supports function initiatives of developing Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices. Review and approve technical reports, studies, design documentation, specifications, material/service requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and calculations using engineering software, as applicable, for control systems equipment/instrumentation. Provide leadership and mentoring to team members. Create meaningful goals working with the team and ensure goals are met. Promotes the creation of a work environment, supported by leadership, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
Qualifications and Skills Basic Qualifications: Level 1: BS engineering degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent) with minimum 9 years of progressive relevant experience. Level 2: BS engineering degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent) with minimum 13 years of progressive relevant experience. PE registration in one state or country.
Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the discipline. Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline. Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline. Prior experience on executing control system works in EPC projects. Knowledge of instrumentation and control valves including specifications, generation of data sheets, application fo tubing and instrument installations.
Knowledge of control system design including digital and analog control logic, control system network architecture, allocation of facility control system I/O, graphic displays, and acceptance tests. Previous experience preparing estimated quantities, jobhour estimates, and schedule planning. Prior work experience being responsible for the engineering progress and performance reporting within a project earned value management system and trending program. Skill in leading the technical work of less experienced engineers, designers and/or drafters who share in the design effort.
Demonstrated strong frontline leadership skills and emphasis on continuous improvement and team building and an ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree is preferred. Module project experience is a plus. Prior work experience and responsibility for the supervision on a medium or major size project in control system at Bechtel. Experience in coordinating with global execution teams and offices. Knowledge of Bechtel Engineering Department Procedures. Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, or Data Center.
