Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for a Staff Mechanical Test Engineer within the Mechanical Engineering and Ground Support Department. The primary work location for this position at Northrop Grumman's Space Park Campus in Redondo Beach, California. As a Staff Mechanical Test Engineer, a qualified candidate is expected to have a broad understanding of space hardware, testing methods, floor operations, and tools. Mechanical Test Engineers (MTE) plan and coordinate
the operations required to build and test flight hardware at all levels - subassembly through complete systems.
The work is primarily at Space Park but can include periodic travel depending on the specific program requirements. Daily tasks for test engineers include but are not limited to the following: Perform earned value management (EVM) duties. Assist in decision-making by establishing budgets and tracking costs of various processes and departmental activities. Plan and forecast budgets and manpower. Brief project status and develop detailed schedules. Design tests to verify system requirements Develop detailed mechanical Integration and test procedures for technicians to execute Provide technical oversight to floor operations Document and remedy test anomalies and hardware non-conformances Coordinate across many technical disciplines to define operations and accomplish work efficiently Provide input into the design of flight hardware and custom support equipment Estimate task durations and execute according to schedules Successful candidates in this role will have strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.

The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. Basic Qualifications: Bachelors of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline plus 14 years of engineering experience OR a Masters of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline plus 12 years of engineering experience.
Proven leadership experience on a project and/or team Previous experience supporting space programs in integration and test OR manufacturing environment Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U. S. Government security clearances: Department of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years OR SCI Access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years OR Department of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years.
Preferred Qualifications: Masters' Degree in Mechanical Engineering Previous experience in designing and executing test series Experience writing procedures for aerospace applications. Salary Range: $149,900 - $224,900The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
